Battlestar Galactica really took me 3 eps to get comfortable with it and by the end of the first season it was my favourite show ever!
Supernatural took me one ep and it wasn't even the pilot, i think it depends on the show and how stand alone the episodes are. Like with Battlestar Galactica the eps run into each other alot definitely less stand alone than is normal.
depends on the show. some I'll think are alright so I give the next few episodes a shot and fall in love and then with others by the end of the pilot, I can't wait to see the rest!
This is just in general- there are a few shows than had me hooked straight away (Buffy, Angel, Supernatural) but usually it takes a few episodes, then I'm like "Woah!" and suddenly I will be addicted :)
I'm really weird, because usually I watch a couple of episodes of season 1, fall in love with a character, read about him/her (usually him) on Wikipedia to find out who is he/she going to be with, then I skip a couple of seasons to see if the show gets more interesting or still is as interesting as it was in the first season and when it is I watch it till the end and then go back and watch the seasons I've skipped.
Example:
Buffy - watched season 1 and a couple of episodes from season 2, saw Spike, fell in love with him, checked him out on Wikipedia, skipped to season 5 to see if I like his relationship with Buffy, watched till season 7, went back to watch seasons 3 and 4 and then finished watching season 2.
I did the same thing with Angel, Supernatural, Bones, Charmed and House. I don't know why, but I like it better this way. Like I said, it's weird ;P
all the other shows i love- it took me a few episodes to really get into it and feel attached to the characters and storylines
