There has been a bit of controversy in the Animal Kingdom group over an innocent Pick about which animal you would like to domesticate if you could. It was a hypothetical question, yet it brought in a few folks who decided to get up on their high horse over it. I would like to respond to those people.

The Pick author is being berated. They are saying that it is cruel to want to domesticate a wild animal and therefore that Pick should have never been made.

I beg to differ.

Get over your sanctimonious selves and use your brains a bit before acting all holier-than-thou and attacking someone. There are many very valid reasons why a wild animal should be domesticated. I'll give you one right here, even though you have ignored my response on the Pick itself.

Many, many wild animals get displaced and/or injured every year all over the world. I'll use Australia as an example for this rant.

Last year the wild fires grew so out of control that even the city of Melbourne was at risk. Acres upon acres of habitat were destroyed. Koalas, wallabies, kangaroos, wombats and a myriad of other indigenous wildlife was effected by this. Wildlife Rescue Centers were over capacity.

Quite a few of these normally wild animals were injured and nursed back to health, but in the process they became too accustomed to humans providing for them to be released back to the wild. They would never be able to fend for themselves out there. They needed homes. They got domesticated.

Others could not be fully brought back to health enough to hunt for themselves. They were also domesticated.

So my question to all you people is this:

Would you seriously rather those animals had been killed than domesticated?

...and before you respond with things like 'yeah but they put Tigers and stuff in the Pick' ... do your freakin' homework. You can start with Thailand.

Instead of spending your time here saying stupid things to nice people, go volunteer at a rescue center... or adopt a previously wild animal that needs a home.

I would ask you to marry me, but I'm already engaged to bliss and I don't think Lars would approve anyway.

Regardless of all your valid (and they are very valid) points, I think they're unneeded because, for Christ's sake, it's a friggin hypothetical pick. Now, I haven't seen the pick, and I just stumbled upon a five month old article and whatever, I know, but it seems to me like it was just a "what if you COULD" sorta deal. It's not like folks are gonna go out and kidnap a tiger from the zoo to raise it as a pet. So in my mind the attacks you describe were unneccessary not only because they were arrogant-without-cause (as opposed to arrogant-with-cause which is completely different) but because... IT'S A FRIGGIN HYPOTHETICAL!

And now that I have voiced my two cents on a five month old issue and proposed marriage to the second woman in twenty-four hours I think I shall retire to my sleeping quarters with my pet ostrich slumbering soundly at the foot of my bed.

This had nothing to do with that, Tigerlover. Sorry to disappoint you.

Maybe if you had actually read this, you would have realized it had nothing to do with Zoos....
