In general, I'm not afraid of either. But I'm much more cautious around wild snakes than I am around wild spiders. But even then, it's not fear so much as caution. When I encounter a rattlesnake on the trail, I pick up a rock and toss it near the reptile. It strikes at the rock, and then I can walk past safely (it takes them a second or two to coil up for a strike). I suppose I could also pick it up at that time, but I've never done that. It'd be kinda cool to take a picture and/or to talk about, but there I'd be with an angry venomous snake in my hand. What could I do then? I'd have to toss it away from me. I don't particularly like harassing wildlife.
Here in California, we don't have the hideous scary poisonous spiders that, say, Australia does...just black widows, and those are quite rare (I can't say with certainty that I've ever even seen one). Much more common are the daddy long legs and common house spiders, which can be found everywhere. I regularly escort these guys outside, so I have no fear of them. It's become something of a game with my son Blake and I: he's always looking for spiders and calls out to me when he finds any, so that I can take it out of the house. It's a big factor in how we keep the bug population down in our yard and garden.
Inn the end, I had to go with the snakes pick for the fantastic picture. That's a classic!
I think I have aracnaphobia(sp?). I freak out whenever I see a spider. zor a bee, or beetle with wings...espesially(sp?) water bugs.
One time when I was little, I saw a black spider, and it turns out it was a black widow...I'm glad I didn't get bit. My dad had to kill it with a broom.
Picked spiders because there's more chance of me running into a spider (although not much!) than a snake. I might live in Australia but not in the Outback.
I actually love snakes, so this wasn't hard at all. Too bad I can't have one... And I hate spiders. :'D They creepy me out they way they move and they're tons of legs. D:
They can come up to you silently so that you won't know they are there, then they find your vain. Then they sink their teeth into your skin and inject poison into the vain and your skin to soften it, then they suck your blood!!
