What did this show deserve?

I have such mixed feelings about this show -sometimes I was totally involved, other times I found myself shouting "what?" at the tv- but I don't think it deserves that shafting its getting. So what, if anything, went wrong with this show? I really want to hear what other regular watchers thought.

I tried to watch it, but honestly I felt like after the premiere that the rest of the season just couldn't match up to the first 30 minutes of the first episode.

I swear, the first 30 minutes were one of the most amazing segments of dramatic television I've ever seen. Riveting, damned riveting. The pacing, the action, everything. Intense. Way beyond normal tv.

But the second half of the show was like a balloon deflating. It just left me flat and, quite frankly, I just never quite recovered after that.

I also think that the number of new serial dramas introduces this season were just too much to sustain to many entrants. And with Heroes clearly taking off and Jericho (surprisingly in my mind since I think The Nine is superior) too, that left little room for other shows like the Nine.
