Dwight. A name full of bravery and wonder.

Kurt. A name that means business.

Schrute. A name that produces very thirsty babies.

Fact: These names together make an american hero.

Work Life: For a man as young as he is, Dwight has accomplished more in life than many co-workers his age. First off, Dwight makes it known that he is the top salesman in the company. this didn't come easy, it took a lot of persistence and hard work. and with hard work comes rewards. Dwight may be a salesman, but he is also assistant regional manager. (He was assistant to the regional manager, but was promoted when he was beaten by Michael in a fight.) Not only does he help the paper world, he helps battle crime. As a Lacawanna County volunteer sheriff, he makes a difference in the world. He almost caught a flasher and almost caught a pot head when he found a joint in the parking lot. "what more can this man do?" you might wonder. Well, along with having a beet farm, he and his cousin Mose Run a bed and breakfast. this bed and breakfast even got a great online review.

As you all know, the Office is not like most shows on television. Most of you probably believe the Office is groundbreaking for its revitalization of the sitcom genre on American television but I’m betting you haven’t considered the other ways the Office has broken boundaries. Well, I have (mostly in the shower). I’ll be posting a series of essays (ramblings) on the subject.

First up is Oscar.

While gay men have become increasingly present in American television shows over the past fifteen years, none of them have been quite like Oscar. Oscar is not stereotypically flamboyant and shallow (Jack from “Will & Grace”). He does not have a glamorous life with a high paying job (Will from “Will & Grace”). He does not live a large metropolis (the men of “Queer as Folk,” Stanford and Anthony of “Sex and the City”). He isn’t the sidekick of some sassy single gal (Will, Stanford, Anthony). He isn’t closeted (Geoffrey Jellineck and Chuck Noblet of “Strangers with Candy”). He doesn’t go clubbing (men of “Queer as Folk”). He doesn’t appear to have any strange kinks (Mr. Slave and Mr. Garrison of “South Park”) but who...

People are always saying that Michael and Dwight and some of the other characters are too “big” to be believable. Office fans are quick to reply that they know people in real life like Michael and Dwight. I’m here to share my experiences with real people who bear resemblance to Dunderheads.

Michael Scott, meet Michael Olavarri
Olavarri is my drama teacher at my high school. I’m going to start this off by saying I mega-loathe him. (He also likes to Google himself, so, Mr. O, if you’re out there, Hi. I’ll be out of your class by the time this is published.)

Like Michael, Olavarri has no social skills. He stands way too close to people when he talks to them. He touches people he barely knows in conversation. He is afraid of his own students. (This isn’t unreasonable considering the neighborhood me and the kids at my school come from.) He is afraid that they don’t like him (They don’t.) and that they will be mean to him (They are.).

Olavarri is incredibly racist. He considers his class room a social experiment to better the black kids (the majority) that go to our school. He is also incredibly sexist. He assigns his...
