Hello my name is Kelly and I have been a huge fan of the Princess bride since I first saw it when I was 11. I wanted to ask other fans of the films some questions. I am doing this as a part of assignment for a university project and would appreciate any response or comments that you would like to give me. I thought I would ask a few questions and answer them as well in the hope that a discussion could happen I will also answer the questions so that no one has to feel awkward. My first question is when did you first discover the princess bride? I was 11 in hospital and it was the only video the ward had. I have felt so lucky ever since then at discovering this film as it is now my feel good film and always cheers me up. My next question is what is your favourite scene? My favourite scene is the one I call "to the pain" where Wesley describes what he will do to Prince Humperdink. My last question is do you do anything to celebrate your love of the film? What I mean by this is do you dress up like the characters, do you collect merchandise, do you play any of the drinking games or even do you just meet up with other fans and discuss the film. My answer to this question is that I have collected some of the merchandise and I have also hosted an evening dedicated to the film where me and my friends watched the film and could not stop endlessly quoting it at each other. If any could reply to this message I would be grateful.
Thanks
Kelly
Hi! oops, you posted this kinda a long while ago, but I'll answer anyway :)
When did you first discover The Princess Bride: I can't remember when I first saw this film. My parents knew of it, and I remember them showing it to me when it was on tv from time to time. I've really got a terrible memory, so I don't remember how old I was or anything when I really fell in love with it. All I know now is that I absolutely adore it, and it is my official number one favorite movie. It's truly perfect. Rob Reiner is also now one of my favorite directors (another great movie of his is Stand By Me--another truly perfect movie). Btw, I don't use the term "perfect" lightly--there are very very few movies that I consider perfect, and when I say that I mean that it has absolutely no faults--I wouldn't change anything in it for the world, not even the tiniest thing.
What is your favorite scene: Wow, how could I possibly choose, lol! Well, the swordfight scene is definitely up there--one of the best movie swordfights of all time. I also love pretty much every scene with Humperdinck or Count Rugen in it. And every scene where it switches back to the little kid and his grandpa. I LOVE that kid! Okay, but this is getting ridiculous, I'm just listing half the movie now. I guess I'll pick the scene with Inigo at the end, his fight with Rugen. That might be the most powerful scene in the movie--I get chills every time I watch it. Ooh, another "chill" scene is at the end when Westley bluffs the Prince into surrendering--brilliant! Okay but I'll stick with the Inigo scene.
Do you do anything to celebrate your love of the film: I'm ashamed to say, not much really. I own the movie and the book, and I usually buy the movie for most of my friends' birthdays, haha. I'm planning to dress up as somebody from the movie (probably Buttercup) for a future Halloween, but it might not be the very next one because I might have to dress up as David Bowie ;D
When did you first discover The Princess Bride: Well, from the time I was like four, my mom had been telling me, "Oh, you have to watch this movie. Its so great." And I just like, refused to watch it. I don't even know why. And my friend Dylan loved it and then, when we were like 7 or 8, she was like "You need to watch this movie!" (And whenever we played dress-up her character was Buttercup!) And I just refused!!! Then one day, I was finally like "Alright, I will watch the frikin movie!" (I was probably 9 or 10.) And then I did and it was ah-mazingggggggg!!!!
What is your favorite scene: I do enjoy all the scenes of Westley one by one beating Inigo, Fezzik and then Vizzini, but really, my favorite is definitely the battle between Inigo and Rugen. My heart totally breaks when Inigo gets stabbed, but then he just keeps saying "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father, prepare to die." over and over again. I love it! And then Rugen is like "Stop saying that!" Best scene ever!
Do you do anything to celebrate your love of the film: I really can't say I do. I mentioned my friend being Buttercup when we dressed up when were like 6, but that's her. I mean, I wish I did more, though! I'm thinking about possibly being Buttercup for Halloween in the near future, but I'm not really sure. I do wish I had a Westley of my own, though. =]
When did you first discover TPB: I was really young like iluvjesse, probably around four as well, when i saw it on my dad's movie shelf and decided to watch a "big girl" movie. I didn't understand it, i can't even rememeber doing this, my mum just told me. But i know that i've liked it forever (even when i had no clue what was going on)
Favourite Scene: This question is killer. I love the part when they are at miracle max's house. Best scene ever, because it's so funny. "Have fun storming the castle!" "It would take a miracle!"
It's just such a good scene. I also love the Montoya revenge scene.
Celebrate my lvoe of the film: Well i tell everyone i know that it's the best movie ever. Every time i'm sick i watch it, so i can be like Fred savage and feel better after hearing the story. I also quote the movie in my everyday life. People get annoied because they if they say something insult (as a joke) i always respond with "Why don't you give me a nice cut and pour some lemon juice on it"
