Okay, I know that the movie was made was back in July and I'm aware that it's currently October, but I thought I would do a movie review to refresh everyone's memories and excite you for the DVD coming out soon.
First of all, let's get one thing out of the way: these are my opinions, they are not facts. I'm not one of those critics (I'm not really a critic at all) who says, "This is what I think, and it's true." My opinions are not facts.
Second, I would like to say that I thought it was the best movie of all time (followed by Napoleon Dynamite, Wayne's World, and School of Rock...) I know many Die-Hard fans of the Simpsons found it quite disappointing. But I am a big fan of the Simpsons, and I thought it was great. Obviously, it could've been better, but it was still wonderful.
I think that all the fans were disappointed that they didn't get to see a big Moe storyline, or an Apu storyline, or Mr. Burns or Krusty or Bumblebee Man or Superintendent Chalmers or Gerald the Baby with the One Eyebrow or whoever. But I got exactly what I wanted - I thought it was a perfect meld. It had a lot of characters that I remembered from way back when. I noticed Laura Powers in the background and... does anyone remember the guy who says, "Just stamp the ticket" in When Flanders Failed? Well, I saw him too. But what I wanted to see was a major storyline about the family. After all, it was called the Simpsons Movie, not the Apu Movie or the Moe Movie or Whatever.
Spiderpig = the funniest thing I've ever seen in my entire life. That was simply brilliant. Harry Plopper = the second funniest thing I've ever seen in my entire life. The writers really had a stroke of genius on those. I saw him on a ton of commercials this summer and yet it didn't annoy the bejesus out of me - everytime I found it hilarious. I think it's nice to see Homer with a friend that understands him. They're a lot a like: They or both fat, they both have small amounts of hair, they both have about the same IQ...
The movie really reminded me of those classic golden years - around seasons 3-5. In my opinion those were the best episodes. The movie reminded me of one of those episodes. I loved the part with Homer and Bart on the roof and the Dare Contest. That just seemed so classic to me - also the Wanted Poster gag, and President Ah-nold, and, well... a lot of it seemed classic to me. :)
Seeing Bart's doodle = unsettling, awkward, hilarious. In the theater I was in when we saw it, it was silence for about three seconds and then utter chaos. I think there were some unruly teens literally bouncing off of the walls behind me. And following that up with a classic Ralph moment - "I like men now" - another stroke of genius.
I had too complaints about the movie: 1) my popcorn was so dry and I even asked for it with extra butter, and 2) Homer and Marge breaking up again? Are you kidding me? That's been done so many times before I literally lost count. I think that they maybe felt they had to add that because the movie couldn't just be all Bart doodles and Spiderpigs - it had to have some sentiment, but honestly, couldn't they think of some other way?
In conclusion, like I said before it was the best movie ever, and I stand by that. It will be the best movie ever until that sequel that Maggie mentioned...
