i read in a site that Matt Groening (creator of The Simpsons) decided to make The Simpsons yellow because it was different, bright and "it looks like there's something wrong with your television set." well that answers that!

Matt Groening has stated that he has always hated the Caucasian pink color given to human cartoon characters, such as on the Flintstones. Someone at the production studio for the original Tracey Ullman shorts (whose name Groening could not recall in the DVD commentary this answer is based on) suggested they make the characters yellow instead.

It's so weird. Metallica and Green Day were on there even they were yellow.

Maybe just to be different from other cartoons....

Maybe so that people flipping through channels will see it and start watching.

I think it's to catch people's attention when their channel surfing.

It's a unique, eyecatching technique and it drives ur attenton to the screen! :)

I think they are yellow just bcozit stands out and looks good...i mean imagine the simpsons like green or blue or red it wouldnt be the same would it???
