Mad Magazine called Family Guy original?!?!
I've been debating whether or not I should write this article, because I didn't want anyone to be offended when I said that The Simpsons is way better than Family Guy, which I personally think is not very funny. As you can see, I decided that I will write the article, because I have my opinions, and they are just that - opinions. The name of this soapbox really should be "Why I Think The Simpsons is Better than Family Guy".

I'm a big fan of the Simpsons. I've seen many, many episodes. Family Guy - yeah, I've seen some episodes... I'd say maybe from 15-25 episodes. So, you may be saying, "Hey, I love Family Guy. How can you say that the Simpsons is way better than Family Guy when you've only seen like 20 episodes of Family Guy!" Well, I'll just base my opinions here on what I have seen of Family Guy.

Homer vs. Peter: They're pretty much the same guy except one's fatter and not yellow. (By the way, I think that one of the things that gives the Simpsons a special charm for me, is their yellow skin-tone.) Anyway, they share pretty much the same humor. They're idiots. They're drunken. They're obese. They're both easily distracted. The main...

This article is based on this pick. There is a lot of evidence as to where they live which I will discuss below.

Kentucky?
The Evidence for Kentucky: In the controversial episode "Behind the Laughter" the narrator says that the Simpsons are a Northern Kentucky family. I'm sure many jaws dropped when they heard that, but if they saw that episode again they noticed that in syndication the narrator says that they are a Missouri family, so we can't really trust that... or can we? Also, there is a Springfield, Kentucky, which isn't too far from Shelbyville, Kentucky. I found that rather interesting.
The Evidence against Kentucky: In the episode "Bart on the Road" Bart and his chums travel through Branson, Missouri, to get to Knoxville, Tennessee. But it would sort of make sense. After all, Bart is just a ten year old kid who probably doesn't have a very good sense of direction so that could explain that.

"I Will Not Send Lard Through the Mail"
I have watched the Simpsons for years. I'll admit I haven't watched it from the very beginning since, like many at the time, I was very skeptical of an animated comedy for adults. But I eventually caught on obviously. It's really grown on me.
In my opinion (and TV Guide's), The Simpsons is the best comedy of the twentieth century and quite possibly ever, and in the following paragraphs I'm going to tell you exactly why I think that.

The DVDs
I really enjoy buying DVDs. I just get a satisfaction from buying them that doesn't really come with any other purchase. I think it's because I can enjoy them for the rest of my life, especially when considering the Simpsons. The average Simpson's season has about 23 episodes... plus commentary... plus deleted scenes... plus bonus features. So all together that equals about 50 episodes or about 18 hours of entertainment that you can watch over and over again and, personally, I never tire of them. I think that is because of all the sign gags and clever references. For instance, I first watched the cult-classic Citizen Kane a couple of years ago. Seeing that movie opened up a whole new world...
