i think they had a bit of a laugh at the audience with that ending. i think thats why it annoys so many people.

I get this feeling that they're gonna go against what they originally said and make a new season where Tony is dead. Just have this feeling that the guy that walked into the bathroom at the end was gonna come out later with a gun! He looked a bit suspicious.

I was so surprised. I thought someone sat on the remote so I was spazzing out until I saw the credits. I next day I was singing "Don't Stop Believin'" all day! Loved this show...
like almost everything in The Sopranos they foreshadowed the ending long in advance.. tony and bobby on the lake.. "bet you dont even hear it" (regarding getting clipped), opening shot of final episode looks like T laid out in a funeral parlour. to those who would've liked to have seen it happen, where would they have gone from there? Carm and kids in hysterics, cut? funeral, cut? none of these would have looked any good. as soon as T's gone we see nothing more, just as it should be. great way to end it, only way to end it.
