I was just looking over a pick i made about my favorite couples and I realized my FAVORITE favorite couples area all somewhat similar.
I've noticed also that shows tend to have similar characters on their shows (drama shows at least):
-every show has a deep connection couple: Lucas/Peyton, Ryan/Marissa, Buffy/Angel, Liz/Max,
-every show has a sweet or comic relief couple (that can be just as important as the deep ones, but they have a different dynamic): Summer/Seth, Brooke/Lucas, Buffy/Spike
-every show has random couples that don't mean anything in the long run and are just fillers in between meaningful relationships: Lucas/Lindsey, Lucas/Anna, Peyton/Pete, Brooke/Felix, Haley/Chris, Ryan/Lindsey Gardner, Marissa/Alex, Seth/Alex, Ryan/Theresa, Marissa/Volchok, Buffy/Riley, Meredith/any guy she brought home from the bar in her effort to get over Derek, Alex Karev/Nurse Olivia, George/Nurse Olivia, etc.
Also there is sometimes one solid couple that is always together: One Tree Hill (Nathan/Haley), The OC (Sandy/Kirsten), etc.

Steel stepped forward, looking around the room. He was searching for a rip in Time, small enough humans wouldn’t notice, but big enough that ghosts from the future were coming through and screwing up the past, which would affect their future. It was Sapphire and Steel’s job to close the rip and send the ghosts back to the future. First, they had to find the rip.
Sapphire also looked around the room, using her sense to search for unusual beings in the room. Steel took a step towards Sapphire, then another.
“The ghosts seem to be attracted to you,” he murmured, stepping closer to her. They were a couple of inches apart and staring into each other’s eyes. Steel wondered how to get them to come out of hiding and show their selves.
With a swift motion and a plan in his head, Steel leaned towards Sapphire and kissed her. She wrapped her arms around his neck and he pulled her close. As they kissed, a slight buzz was heard. Steel opened one eye and clearly saw three unhappy looking men glaring at him.

Someone once said, “If opposites didn't attract somewhat, everyone on the planet would be asexual or gay.” In my opinion certain television couples appeal to this notion and others do not. For the most part, I find that the perfect balance between matters of the mind…the build up…the “will they or won’t they” tension is what intrigues me and draws me towards a particular couple. And so, I prefer couples that complement one another, not those who are identical.
As human beings each one of us has different qualities, and it is precisely these differences that draw us to our potential mates, and truly make us connect with one another. The qualities that we don’t possess are often the qualities that we admire in others. Furthermore, couples that work best together, genuinely admire each other, which is essentially the basis behind my “opposites attract” philosophy.
All my favorite fictional couples adhere to this rule in their own unique way. Its that balancing act and symbiotic relationship that these amazing pairs portray that supports my notion of “true chemistry” My favorite couples are Ben & Felicity of Felicity, Brucas of OTH,...
