I dont think Edward was being judgemental in any manner, obviously he said it because he wanted to show bella that he does have preferences (we all do!! ) and that there was no reason to be jealous. Also i think he prefers brunettes because it is brown, and brown for him resembles chocolate and warmth and bella .
