Controlling, maybe, but for a good cause..he does not want Bella to become a vampire because she might miss out on human experiences, plus there are moral issues in question. Other than that, I thought Edward was considerate, selfless, responsible, and very loving. He's most selfless when he does not want to change her... he could still slip up and kill her if she's not a vampire.
Abusive is being rude, inconsiderate, touching inappropriately, and slapping a woman around.... among other things. He is a little stalkish, sneaking into her bedroom at night, without her knowing about, but its more to protect her and be near her. Read the draft of Midnight Sun to get a glimpse of his thoughts while he watches her sleep. This is just my opinion and interpretation.

it's natural to watch people sleep? It's natural to not let her do what she wants? Even if she 'means the world to him', that doesn't take away the fact he's abusive and controlling. And a lot of the time he is controlling it's got nothing to do with protecting her. I think Edward's a bit of a freak.

its not anuusal to watch your BG/GF sleep. doing it before you know that person is maybe not so normal but he is far from abusive. overprotective he is. but is completaly understandable giving he is what he is and knows what he knows

Watching her sleep without her knowing was wrong, as was stopping her seeing Jacob just because of his prejudice against werewolves (which he says is the reaosn later on in Eclipse).

The choice I made says it all, and I agree with everyone who said Yes. Because he is controlling and he does stalk her. Messing with her truck so she can't go to La Push was just wrong. He never really gives her the chance to make her own choices. He only agrees to change her after she agrees to marry him. The moment he steps into her life, he becomes the center of her world.
