There is a striking contrast between America and her character
I've had this idea in the back of my head for a long while now, and after yet another pick asking whether or not Betty should get a make over and be pretty, I decided to finally address my frustrations with this idea in soapbox form.

Regardless of what's been done in shows like Betty, La Fea, upon which our Ugly Betty is based, I think the show will jump the shark if/when Betty gets a makeover and is suddenly beautiful and fashionable. Why? Well, I'll tell you.

First of all, this idea initially popped into my head when I was watching Beauty and the Beast with my roommate and she commented, "You know, it's such a cop out when the beast turns back into a prince. If I was Belle, I'd be pissed. 'No, dammit! I like hairy men!'" She was kidding, but she still didn't like that part of the plot. And to be honest, neither did I. It's the same story with Penelope. And though I love both movies, it's hard to deny that by the end they completely contradict the moral they're trying to illustrate. The classic maxim, "beauty is only skin deep." It's as if the characters couldn't...

(S02E05) Love was in the air, courtesy of Ugly Betty's newest phony website, bachelosity.com. Betty found a date, Amanda found a new way to tease Betty, and someone from Christina's past found her. Even Marc found romance! While some characters made significant progress, others (thankfully) went back to basics. Alexis remembered what being a Meade is all about, and Justin's dreaded rebellious phase is officially over! I just hope he didn't throw out his old clothes.

Betty's first rebound date wasn't with Gio after all, but with so-called NiceGuy47. I couldn't believe that NiceGuy had the nerve to bail on his date with Betty. To be fair, it wasn't the smoothest first date in history. Answering phone calls and telling bathroom stories isn't the best way to charm a man. I should hate NiceGuy, but he brought Henry and Betty closer together, so he's forgiven.

At last, Christina gets her own storyline! We had heard about her husband back in the season finale, and FishandChicks finally tracked her down online. How long will it take him to turn up at Mode? How will Christina...

Show Recap:

The first episode of season two was extremely touchy-feely, in my opinion. To begin with, Betty is running around like a chicken with her head cut off, trying to take care of Daniel and her job and denying that she is hurt over recent family events. Henry’s running off to Arizona with Charlie has also clearly affected her greatly.

Daniel and Alexis are in the hospital after their car crash. Daniel is in a wheelchair and feels guilty, thinking he caused the crash. Alexis is in a coma until Daniel goes in to talk to her.

Once she wakes up, Alexis can’t remember that she got the sex-change surgery… a classic case of amnesia. She can’t remember that she is no longer a male Alex.

Hilda spends several days holed up in her bedroom after Santos gets shot. For the first 50 minutes of the episode, we are fooled into thinking that he survived the shooting, because him and Hilda spend 24/7 in their bedroom, talking and reminiscing about what they almost lost.
