10 Reasons Why Ugly Betty Shouldn't Be Cancelled

Here are (my) 10 reasons why Ugly Betty shouldn't be and may I add also, doesn't deserve to be cancelled in no particular order:1) It is one of the few shows which has a worldwide fan base as big as it has already- from the US to the likes of Australia, UK, South Africa, China to name Ugly Betty's appeal is massive. 2) Despite falling ratings for season 3, and criticisms from some ex- Ugly Betty fans, most notably from the Benry and Getty quarters, it is actually a definite improvement over season 2, of which I didn't have much hope for, the longer it went on. 3)It is the only show I tune into on a regular basis; there hasn't been a show that has gripped me and appealed to me more, since Caroline in the city as I was a fan of that show beforehand 4) Two words: marc and amanda- perfectly played by michael urie and becki newton. 5) I cannot think of a better cast of actors than the ones we have on this show to play the likes of betty, daniel, marc, amanda, christina and willie than in america, eric, michael, becki, ashley and vanessa. 6) Though it has struggled in the ratings recently, Ugly Betty is still ABC's main show, and without UB, that network will suffer in the ratings battle (just watch when the UB's hiatus takes affect in March of this year and ABC's decline begins). 7) It makes you think and wonder how in a society where first impressions and looks matter, that there is a person in betty, who despite her bad appearances has a heart of gold. 8) If ugly betty gets the axe, I swear people will be left extremely upset and angry and they will demand to bring it back, if and when it happens. 9) ABC's audience is predominately made up of Ugly Betty fans- and so as many of them won't be tuning into UB's replacement shows; one of them being 'samantha who?'. Thursday nights for ABC will never be the same for until UB returns. How many UB fans will tune into a show of which they haven't seen before and how many of them will lose interest afterwards and demand UB back? 10) The third season is anything but crap- it has been 'eventful' so far. And spare me the criticisms and flak it has received, and the declining figures; if anything, the second season was rather predictable, flat, became very contrived and silly it became utterly ridiculous. OK, and that's my two cents. |
