We read images and pictures in an attempt to decode them and make sense of what they mean to us.
Semiotics is the study of signs but also of anything which stands for 'something else'. Signs can be anything: sounds, pictures, words, objects, hand gestures for example. Semiotics, which is also known as 'semiology' has been recognised and regarded as one of the main theoretical areas within media and cultural studies. I think this is because that we realise that there is more than one way of reading a TV show, film, photo, poster. It is one thing describing what it looks like, but it is also another by relating it to wider themes and ideas, in relation to identity, society, culture, other issues and wealth to name.
The sign itself is made up of the image (signifier) and the word of the image it represents (signified); with the signifier and signified combined together they form the 'sign'. An example of this would be a signifier of a tree and the letters (signified) 'T-R-E-E'. Although this could refer to any type of tree.

Okay, I've seen this is usual here. So I say why not? I'll give it a try.
I only write Gio and Betty fanfiction. So I'll post the most generic one. One with several characters. I am open to comments of any kind. Sorry about characterization. I am really bad at that. So if my characters seem a bit OOC, bear with me, please. It's just my style.
And spanish is my first language. So there might be english grammar mistakes in here. But overall the story is not that bad, even if I say so myself.

This is a short, one-shot I wrote about Daniel/Bradford, I wasn't too happy with it, but I'll let you decide for yourself...:)
Disclaimer: Not mine, I get no money from this, purely for my entertainment.
A/N: Song is Reba McEntire. Just a short Daniel/Bradford one shot song fic.
The Greatest Man I Never Knew
Daniel sat in his apartment in the pitch black dark. He hadn’t even bothered to turn any lights on. He couldn’t face the light; or rather he didn’t want to. All he could think about was his father and his ‘son’ and even if he didn’t know for sure that Daniel was his son he knew he owed him, because if he was his son he knew how he felt.
Daniel knew what it was like to grow up with an ‘absent’ father, the pain it causes, the questions it leaves permanently unanswered, and the never-ending quest for approval you feel certain that no matter how hard you try you can never get. Daniel was all too familiar with each of these emotions and he had always promised himself that he would NEVER let his son feel any of them.
