Ukulele sizes: Which is your favorite?

ukemike posted on Sep 06, 2006 at 10:51PM
Hi uke fans! I'm gonna throw this question out there. I've only got a soprano and concert uke, so my experience is limited. But which uke body is your favorite?

- Soprano (standard, the smallest)
- Concert
- Tenor
- Baritone

I have to admit the soprano is a bit little for my fingers (it was given as a gift), I much prefer the concert.

Hi ukemike,

I'm a big fan of the tenor uke. I love the sound and the size is right the Baritone seems too big to me.

The soprano is fun, but it's just a little too tiny for anything other than strumming. The tenor is great for both strummin' and pickin' and I like to do a lot of pickin'

But the soprano is so cute!!! :-)

Seriously though, I love the soprano. It's got that bright tone and strikes me as the most 'ukulele'-like.

But in all honesty, you can't go wrong with *any* ukulele as long as you can play it with a smile.

This weekend I was in a shop and tried a Baritone out. They're huge!

Really though, it's almost like playing a slightly undersized guitar.

I can see how they'd be useful and great for folks who need more fretspace, but I'm gonna stick with the standard for now.

I love the soprano. So classic and it gets you a great sound. I've never tried a tenor but I'd like to.
