Good songbook recommendations?

twinkletoes posted on Sep 20, 2006 at 05:25PM
Hi all. The "what are you playing thread" got me wondering about good songbooks that you might use.

I know there's lots of great tab sites out there, but sometimes I can't find what I'm looking for or I just want a nice collection of tunes.

I'm a big Beatles fan so I have a lot of Beatles songbooks.

But I'm interested in finding a songbook with some of the fun, popular Hawaiian songs. Any recs?

If you're looking for contemporary Hawaiian songs and the so-called 'hapa haole' songs (English words), He Mele Aloha is a great, great collection:

Note that the collection only provides chords and lyrics. This is not a fakebook as it doesn't even provide the melody in musical notation.

Big fan of Alligator Boogaloo.

They have songs online (chords and words). But they also have a songbook called Jiminy Kokopo's Ukulele Sing and Strum Fun Book.

This book rocks and it's loads of fun too.

Here's the link:

It includes some excerpts from the book. I think Amazon carries it too.
