Fight Night Round 4 Sucks!

OK, I should start by saying Ive been a huge fan of all previous incarnations of the Fight Night games. They were hands down the best boxing games ever, and were an absolute blast to play, even if you weren't a fan of boxing.

Part of what made them so great were the controls, all the punching was done with rotations of the joysticks, and once learned properly, was like second nature. It was easy to think of a combo in your head, and then have your fighter execute it with ease.

Now it seems EA felt like doing to this franchise, what they keep doing to the NHL franchise, which is devise a new control system with each new version of the game. Ive played the FN4 Demo for about 4 hours today, I've gone through the tutorial several times, and do have a grasp of these "new controls" - and I'd just like to point out that in my opinion, they suck real bad.

The controls are clumsy and far too finicky. The fighters move shitty, and Manny Pacqiauo actually looks less like himself in this then he did in older versions of the game. The game hud also floats around at about mid-screen which is highly irritating.

What sucks is people get used to these games and become a fan of the franchise, and then people like me get pissed off (in the case of NHL especially) when every year you have to learn a new set of overly complicated controls. Its like "oh that button doesn't shoot anymore? weird, because it has for the last 8 years". FN4 has done the same thing. Punch controls are different, blocking is different, counters are different, and none of them have changed for the better.

Some of these issues could be resolved by the time the full game is released, but obviously the control scheme is not going to change. So I say if you have FN3 then keep it, because FN4 does not look promising at all, and I was really looking forward to it.

This game is especially crappy in the wake of the recently released UFC game - which is great. I'd also like to add that after only a few minutes of playing the UFC demo, you knew it was going to be a good game. My opinion? Don't bother with FN4 unless your a die-hard boxing fan. What a let down to something I've been waiting a long time for.

hmmm
Sorry to hear it. I really hate the new driving and shooting control of R2 that games recently seem to be so into using too, especially with the games Fracture and MotorStorm. Anyway, UFC DOES look like a great game.
