Fracture is a technical achievement, but is still a Gears of War rip-off in the long run.
|
Fracture really isn't one of those games you need to finish to review. Sure, you might miss out on a vehicle section or two, but you still get the basic idea. After all, the game has an interesting, realistic, but dull story that never interests you. It has the most downright bizarre control scheme you've seen in years, and it has some glitches. (Although it is a technical achievement.)
The game starts out with the west breaking apart (literally) due to global warming. The Pacifican Union uses genetic modification to survive and the Atlantics of the surviving country use technology, mainly terrain deformation to get shade from the burning hot climates and to create makeshift forts. Well, the POTUS bans all genetic modification and the Pacificans get pissed and declares war against the rest of the country. You play as Jet Brody (slick name, eh? Sounds like something from the 50s.), who must stop the Pacificans from taking control of the country.
There really is no reason why you must play as part of the Atlantic Union, I personally think playing as part of the Pacifican Union would've been cooler, but either way, Day 1 Studios probably wrote two...

This is a sequel-article to one of my recent articles which was a giant rant about the apparent crappiness of the 360. I think it's fair to say I made it out to be the greatest rip-off on the face of the Earth. EVERYTHING is different once you have got your Gold Membership, there's so much new stuff to download and re-theme your screen. That is, once you've got past the torturous set-up of the internet connection and membership.
My horrible journey started with trailing a giant ethernet cable across my living room (from PC to 360) and digging a nail into the wall above the door frame to serve as a shelf for the cable. The next part was a tedious task which could have been mistaken for setting up a freaking bank account.
After giving the 360 a brief life-story, I thought it was almost done, but then.... over-protective disaster struck. The 360 came to the ridiculous conclusion that I was a 7 year-old child on a quest to find new swear words and rude pictures (even though I'm only a few months away from being able to legally buy every gory, horrific DVD in the world). This resulted in having to set up a whole new account for my mum, so she could...

A series which started of when Resident Evil veered off toward supernatural, Devil May Cry 4 has a slight twist: SLIGHT GAMEPLAY SPOILER you play one character for half the game, then switch. SPOILER ENDED
I’ve never played a Devil May Cry game before, but seeing as Capcom did such a brilliant job on Resident Evil 4, I decided to give the DMC4 demo a go, and I found myself playing those same two levels more than any other game I downloaded from Xbox Live. I don’t regret buying the full game AT ALL.
GAMEPLAY: COMBAT
The combat is (as suggested by Xbox Live labelling it “stylish action”) very stylish and cool. Even an injury to your character results in a flourishing slide-back.
As Nero, you use a sword (Red Queen), gun (Blue Rose) and Nero’s left arm “the Devil Bringer". I could spend ages fighting off demons without getting bored. Dante is a slightly odd character to play, as he gets more and more obscure gadgets as you progress through the game, as well as his three guns and two-handed sword. The game encourages you to alternate your weapons and moves, and will give you more points for being more stylish. Devil May...
