Berni,apart from starring in the Tower Of London with Boris Karloff in 1939, Vincent didn't really start making horror movies until the 1950s - with House Of Wax in 1953.
Some of Vincent's earlier movies include Bringham Young, The Keys Of The Kingdom, Dragonwyck, Laura, Leave Her To Heaven, The Ten Commandments. Although some of the parts he played earlier on in his career could be considered villianous, they certainly were not horror.

Thanks Cammie,You have jogged my memory i do remember him in the Ten Commandments and Dragonwyck but i always remember him more in his horror roles.
Lol, I have an interview with Vincent on video where he says that although he played some many different kinds of roles, people always just associated him with horror.
