I didn't even bother with 'I Am Legend'. I figured that was probably just another remake that the studios would bungle up.
I saw 'The Omega Man' first, but heard about 'Last Man On Earth' and managed to get a hold of a nice print. Vincent Price gave an excellent performance in it. You could feel sympathy for him, whereas Charlton Heston seemed more like he was on a search-and-destroy mission ...Mr. King of the World. I couldn't really say I felt sorry for him at the end, just the hope that he had given near the end. 'Last Man On Earth' wins! No contest there!
I've now seen all three versions: 'Last Man', 'Omega Man,' and 'I Am Legend.' I think the Vincent Price version is the best. 'The Omega Man' was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I enjoyed Will Smith in 'Legend' but no one can touch the brooding desperation of Mr. Price.
The Last Man On Earth Rules!!! The I Am Legend was trying to rip off the old classic.... I wish that Movie Fans would somehow reach out to the people who choose movies for movie theaters and allow us to enjoy old classics on the Big Screen!!!! That would be a dream come true!!! Vinny in all his Glory!!!
The Omega Man had better production values , even if it did stray from richard Mattheson's novel. The vampires in The Last man on Earth were hardly scary, be honest......
Man was I disappointed. The Last Man On Earth still reigns supreme.
