I think the movie "Dave" explains what happened to George Bush. You know, the movie where the President goes into a coma and is replaced by a lookalike actor. (I don't seriously think that's what happened, but it would explain a lot. Quite a bit, actually...)
Very interesting, the difference from 10 years ago is striking. Then it looked like he was prepared and rehearsed, even polished. Now it's more like deer in the headlights.
This recalls the oft-repeated question: is Bush an idiot, or a villain? The makers of the video seem to think he's an idiot, but another theory is that the President and his advisers created his folksy, semi-intelligible persona intentionally, particularly to present a large contrast for voters against the "too-polished ivory-tower intellectuals" he's run against. The cynical even liken it to the emergence of a culture of stupidity, and point to the popularity of Paris Hilton and Jessica Simpson, both of whom present themselves as incredible, mind-boggling morons. Such an argument contends that there is a lot of sympathy and popularity to be gained on the national stage by not only acting dumb but by actively ridiculing intellectual competency.
