A debate that broke out on “The View” last week was so heated, that it caused a whole lot of commotion and backlash following its airing. The ladies of “The View” had been discussing the “N” word, which led to a debate over whether the word could be used in any context.
Whoopi Goldberg tried to explain to Elizabeth Hasselbeck, why it was okay for black people to use the word, but not white people. Hasselbeck, making the point that we should be moving towards a world in which we are all the same, made the point that she didn’t think it was okay for anybody to use the word.
The debate left Hasselbeck in tears, and acknowledging that it was a very difficult conversation to have, but that they on “The View” could have it, because they loved each other. Apparently, the critics didn’t buy that there was all this “love,” and the women felt they needed to address the way in which they all relate to each other.
Barbara Walters and the rest of the women wanted to respond to critics who had lashed out against them, suggesting that the conversation had been mean-spirited or out of control. Walters...

She won’t be wearing roller skates, but Whoopi Goldberg, has signed on for the role of Calliope in the Broadway musical “Xanadu,” the show’s producers announced on Monday.

Ms. Goldberg, the actress and comedian who won a Tony Award as a producer of “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” will join the cast for a six-week run beginning on July 29.
