Rating FYI...

DrDevience posted on Mar 30, 2008 at 05:36AM
Just so you folks know... a big part of how I rate is based on Key Words. If people cannot find what they need here through Google, then the submission might as well not exist.

In other words, you might have the coolest video ever, but there is only 1 keyword so I'll give it a 2...

And with images, you absolutely need to credit who owns it or where you got it to get above a 3. No credit and only one or two keywords is not good...

Just 'splainin it here the one time so I don't have to 'splain it 1,000 times on the submissions. heh.

Also, I noticed we have a rabid rater nailing everything with a 1 with no good reason to do so. He has done it to all the submission with no favoritism that I can see, so I have to assume it is some ignorant sot who has no idea what paganism or witchcraft actually stand for...

Silly fool.

HA!

Wow. TheTroll-I Really hope you're not actually 68 because that would just be embarassing for you.
I am with DrDevience. Although if an image has good credit and god keywords I tend to give it a five. Just because people don't rate images as much as videos :)

You're going to be old some day, will you be embarrassed? Maybe you will die before you get to be old enough to understand what life is about.

I wish there were more Fanpoppers like DrDevience- a Fanpopper that you can trust will always credit properly. It comes in handy while rating icons, which I rate in list form (because even if you gave it the individual attention, it'd still be the same size). The image credit doesn't appear in list form, but if you can trust that the user credited, it makes it much easier as it won't affect my rating... if any of that made sense.

I actually am 11.. which is what makes this so hard. I asked my dad to help me with all this, and he said that there are some people out there who just have nothing better to do than sit around and give people a hard time for no real important reason. He told me that if I wanted to come out ahead in this, I should just stop messing around with fanpop because there are too many mean people that don't want to appreciate the information, and just want to be a bunch of Nazi's about everything.

Im going to go and enjoy life away from my computer for a while. Maybe you should try it too.

I will still post things that I find on the internet so people like you can enjoy it, thetroll. If you want to rate it with a 1, I dont really care, as long as you like the stuff im putting out here for your entertainment, that what matters to me. I just hate to think that someone is going to be ran off of a site because some people bully you into thinking that you cant post something without giving advanced forms of citation.

Im going to go back and take a look at some of the credits, but I dont really care if I get them all..

1.if your 11 i don't think you should be on fanpop anyway, someone correct me if i'm wrong but you have to be over 13

2. no real important reason, image theft is a crime, i call that a important reason

3. fanpop is one of the nicest communities on the internet, if you apologized to drD i'm pretty certain pretty soon you would be accepted in to it with open arms

4. i'm going to go have some more fun on my computer with the knowledge that i have a perfectly good life away from it too

Good on you, Doc! As usual.

My favorite thing about people who claim they have better things to do than be nasty on websites is that they never prove it by, well, leaving.

Haunt us all you want. As far as I'm concerned, you're nothing special.

SHOCK!!!!

*gasp*

*faint*

NOBODY offends DrD! That's just not nice! NOBODY offends ANYONE like that on Fanpop!

Frankly, there once wasn't enough keywords on a spot that I basically recreated it, and then got slammed for it. You can go to jail for not crediting a photo, and I know if somebody took my photos off of flickr and posted it on fanpop without crediting it, I would get VERY VERY mad. Just because this is Fanpop! and not a newspaper, doesn't mean you can get away with not crediting. Keywords actually might attract more people towards your work and you can get nice comments because this way in the search, more people can find it.

I'm sorry, but I thinking crediting is very important and I"m with DrD on this one.

Question-Are you 11, 68 or 600? Because if you are 11 then of course you don't understand how easy it is to get sued. If you are 68, I think you should realisse that calling someone an old hag isn't the best way to make friends and if you are 600 then I really want to know if you take some sort of vitamins? Just because I have always wanted to live till I am 600 =)

You must be 18 or over, or the legal age to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction if that age is greater than 18 years of age, to register as a Fanpop member or use the Fanpop Site and Fanpop Service. If you are under the age of 18 or the applicable legal age in your jurisdiction, you can use the Fanpop Service only in conjunction with, and under the supervision of, your parent or guardian who has agreed to the Terms of Service.

So that's probably why his dad was helping him offend DrDevience.

Ok.. first, there IS an important reason for crediting images. To not credit them is theft, just like if you copied an article word for word and tried to say you wrote it. You (and fanpop) can be sued.

Second, it isn't all that hard. Nothing advanced to it. Seriously. Want to grab a ton of still shots for your favorite movie? Go ahead and grab them from multiple websites without worrying about where... the credit is always the movie studio (MGM, Columbia, etc) - see? easy! If you don't know the studio, go to imdb.com and look it up. Imdb is your friiiend... same with TV Show stills and publicity photos. When in doubt, put the TV Station as the credit.

This is not rocket science, folks. It is usually pretty easy to ind the true credit. With google just click the image and the true URL to the hosting website comes up. BAM. There ya have it.

If it happens to be a place like Flickr, put Flickr and the User name of that Flickr account. What's so hard?

Wiki gives you the name of the uploader of the picture, along with whether or not you can legally use that image. Some times you can NOT use it, so don't. heh.

And Keywords? Man guys... come on! Even if you are having a brain fart and can't think to put black & candle on a picture of a black candle, you have 3 ready keywords going into every single image: Image, picture, photo. See right there? FIVE keywords without having to even think!

-coffee break-

Also:

If it is a photo you took yourself, you put your own name in the Credit field so someone (cough) doesn't rate you down for no credit.... and so people on other websites don't steal it...

If you do not care if someone takes your image, then put 'Public Domain'
