when i write with a pen or something, it takes longer, and by the time i'm done one sentence, i've forgotten what i was going to say next, or how i was gunna word it or something.
also, your hand doesnt hurt afterwards.
(plus, spellcheck was God's little gift to me, so...)
It really depends on what I'm writing, but I always think of creative writing first, and I am much more creative with pen and paper than with a word processor. Proofreading and copyediting - both very important parts of the writing process - are at least as good on a computer, but for actually writing new stuff? Nothing beats a pen in a notebook.
My pencilled notebooks have all faded over time, which makes it very difficult to go back and read - come to think of it, my old writing on computer is largely inaccessible, since the disk formats aren't compatible!
I love writing by hand, but my handwriting is so childish that it makes me feel ashamed :)
plus I hold my pen wrong, so it hurts my hand after a while. Computer may be soul-less in some people's eyes, but it's better. Even if you can't see all the crossings-out and improvements and the heart and soul of a piece of writing.
Traditionally, the words are meant to flow out of your hand onto the paper. It doesn't quite fit that the words flow through your keyboard onto the screen.
when i'm on the computer i'm usually zoned out and I have no emotion.... but when i'm writeing on paper I feel as if my words are just spilling out on there.
I need to have a pen and paper at all time though. Great ideas seem to come to me in my sleep! When I was a kid I actually wrote two books (one complete and one almost) with a notebook and a pencil. I still have them too. Boy is the spelling horrible, but I love that I can see all the pages of my imagination filtered out into horrible misspelled words. Creating lives of people who never could be real *sigh* what joy! lol
I write in mechanical pen and then I type it on the computer.

poisonfang picked whatever happens to be on my desk at the time.:
generally i prefer to have something that's easily erasable, that's why i hate pens. (and gel pens smudge!) but pencils are awesome, just very tempting to chew on and anyway, i'm left-handed so i smudge everything that can be smudged. so maybe computers are better after all, but last time i tried that it crashed on me, so everything i'd written was lost! *whines pathetically and mopes around* so i guess, since my desk is so messy anyway, i just write with whatever i can find.
I just enjoy the feel of the pencil gliding across the paper, obeying my commands.and I like the machanical pencils cause you dont have to sharpen them.
I like all of them, but I agree that typing the thoughts out is just so much faster than writing them.
And Marissa, Spell Check is not your friend. You should get in a major fight and go your separate ways. As I've said before; it's called a dictionary folks.
