I actually like the manga's ferryman-version of Bekkou better - he doesn't look quite so typically heroic, blonde, and front-and-center. In the manga, he looks more shadowy and mysterious; the elusive character preferring to work behind the scenes. I like that darker side better.
But that doesn't mean this picture is anything less than amazing X3
