What I think Humphrey's father would look like if he was alive still, and in real life! :)
It was morning, and I had been asked to go along with Hutch on his hunt for two. Now, normally we would hunt in groups, but today, Hutch asked me to tag along because he wanted company. His mate, Grille, had just left him, and he was staying at my den, which was shared by me and my mate, Kate. Hey, that rhymes! But this morning, Hutch wanted me to accompany him on a hunt to vent his frustration, and I had nothing to do, so I accepted.
It had been about an hour, and we hadn't found anything. No sign of any other animals other than birds, and there were few of them, as well, as it was winter. "Hey, Hutch? Could we head back? It's getting late, soon it will be time to eat the noon lunch." I said, looking at him.
But he didn't say anything for a few seconds. Then he said, "Bear!" But it was too late. The bear had him pinned, and was already crushing his entire body with it's massive paws.
"Humph...rey!" Hutch gasped, trying to breathe, but he couldn't.
I tried to go and help him, but it was too late. Hutch was dead. The bear turned, and looked at him. No wonder there were no other animals out! There was a blizzard, and a wolf murdering bear!
I turned and fled, back towards camp. When I got there, I was out of breath.
"Humphrey, what's wrong?" Winston asked me.
I looked at him, terror in my eyes. "Hutch... dead... bear... a bear killed him!"
As Winston, Kate, Eve, and a few others got to the place where Hutch was killed, he was half covered with snow, the bear was gone, along with his paw tracks.
"So... where's the bear? If there really was one, it would have stopped to eat his feast. Are you sure this is what happened, Humphrey?" Eve asked me.
Oh no. Now what was I going to say? "Um... uh, I don't know... it was here, and I couldn't stop it! Do I look like a fight cabable alpha to you?" I asked.
Eve looked at me. "You did this, didn't you, you traitor! I shouod have known better when we accepted you as a pup into our pack! You, Humphrey, even though I cannot prove that you killed him, I must banish you for a while. You have three months l, and then you van come back. Kate, don't you even think about going with him, either." Eve said.
I was stunned, and I was lost for words. "What... but I didn't... fine! Goodbye!" I ran off, and didn't look back. I wandered around for a bit, and I finally spotted a den. I went inside, and decided to take a nap.
After a while, I was woken up by an odd noise. I opened my eyes, and saw the spitting image of me; dark grey pelt with lighter patches, and a pale face.
"Your up! Who are you?" He growled, looking at me.
"Um... my name's Humphrey. I'm sorry if I intruded. I couodn't smell anyone's scent here. I can leave now." I said, heading towards the door.
He blocked my path. "Nah, how about you stay. You don't look too harmful. Mama and my sis will be getting home soon. Look, there there are now!" He said, pointing.
The female looked like me as well, but the sister didn't. And why did they look and smell so familiar? "Ahh! You are awake! What were you doing here, son? What happened? Oh, and this is Harly, my son, and this is Jeril, my daughter. My name is Wilger. Funny names, I know. What is your name?" Wilger asked.
I looked at her. So sleek, muscular, and proud. "Um... My name is humphrey. And I was banished from my pack for a while because of a mistake. Could I stay here for a while, please?" I asked her.
She paused. "Yes. Please stay. That would be... great." She sighed, looked me in the eyes, ans smiled.
"Um... whats going on? What?" I asked.
She smiled. "You... it's been years... six and a half, to be exact. You've come home."
I was confused at first, but then I finally got it. "What are you talking... oh... Mother? That's why you look like me! What happened to father? Why did you dissapear all those years ago?"
Wilger sighed, and looked at me. "Well... when we left you alone, we were gojng to come right back, but there was a bear. There was the scent of blood, wolf blood, and the cries of a pup. But all of the sudden, the cries stopped, and the bear scent started to fade. When I went over to see where you were... I was so mad at myself. I thought I let you die. Who would leave their defensless omega pup in the middle of a forest? For a while, I started blaming myself. Your father, Velieu, told me to stop, and we ended up getting into an arguement. It got physical, and he left. A few minutes passed, and I felt so bad. So, I went to find him, but, when I got there, to the place where I left him, he was lying there, dead.
"All I could smell was other wolves... the rogues. They were rogues! Your father is dead, Humphrey."
