What sort of themes or ideas did you have in mind when making certain characters?

I thought of something we could do. I'm curious to know if anyone has created characters based on any particular themes. They'd be more subtle, so it would be hard to pick up on them, so if anyone has any themes for characters they've used, it would be nice to hear what they are. Here are some of mine that I can remember:

My first four demigods in KnSK were all meant to be polar opposites from each other. Averis is a sociopath while Chrome is a psychopath. One is composed, deceitful, and has a facade as an average guy while the other is violent, recklessly straightforward, and is clearly insane. One sees the big picture and understands what's going on behind the scenes while the other is narrow-sighted and obsesses over the superficial things he sees before him.

Alicia is the pinnacle of martial splendor while Gwendolyn is the pinnacle of martial might. Alicia is righteous and loves people in general while Gwendolyn doesn't let herself get caught up in morals and avoid people since she can't interact with them. This is a bit of a spoiler for what I'm planning, but I have no intention of having them meet. I wanted to build it up as an interesting potential meeting, then tear down the possibility in a 'it was never meant to be' sort of way. Frankly, I'm not sure if I'd have them get along or hate each other if they meet. Their values are just too different.

Mathias was created thanks to a fanart picture I saw of two characters from Touhou, involving a mirror. I basically added a lot of context to create the character, so I'm proud of how original he is. His theme is obviously mental walls, but just like the other two WMD I made, he's also a contradiction. A lot of what he does to maintain his own identity conflicts with his goals. In the same vein, Lynda is an ironic existence who's the very epitome of a contrarian. She embodies the idea of people never really understanding what they're doing, or why. The freedom to pile contradictions on her makes her easy to

write with (if I can just remember to use British slang to represent he mood swings. Always have to go back and edit that stuff in). I'll pass on Rosalia for now, since I've yet to write the scenes that showcase her contradiction properly. I'm hoping to get to it soon. In Game of Faith...well, a lot of my characters were created pretty early, so I didn't think about any subtle references with their characters. The three level 5s I made were pretty much just character types I thought would be really fun to write with--Kyle's a ball of anger who I wanted to use to practice gradual character development, Chester is the opposite, a character who will never change as he just goes from one step to the next through a logical series of decisions, and Blaise is...an otaku. Fun as Blaise is, I've been thinking through how to deepen her character and I've decided on something I think will be worthwhile without contradicting what she is now. My characters from Kouka Mono were more functional than anything else, though I still like what I did with Ophelia. Astra would have been the character I took more time into building, giving her some character while focusing on the different things she learned from various experienced throughout her lifetime. Yumei Kakei, for me, was about criminal characters. Each one of the character who I named would definitely by a criminal in our world, for whatever reason. Plus, I wanted to make a duo like Marianne and Zephyr. They cover each other's weaknesses well. If I add Age of Pirates in here, Cade is basically a character I created over time after watching One Piece. I just wanted to make a character who made sense from making no sense. Dandelion was literally born to keep him in line, because I couldn't think of many normal ways to keep Cade from doing things he really shouldn't have been doing at that point in time in the rp. Funnily enough, this turned out to be more of a reminiscing sort of thing.

I forgot about my apostles. Tobias and Charlotte are both duty bound, but have very different levels of enthusiasm, representing the two extremities of the group. Tobias is also meant to represent the ideal Christian, the type who might be canonized a saint a few decades after his death. On the other hand, Charlotte is deeply involved with the side of Christianity the religion tries to forget--the controversial magical side with spells and angel worship. Plus, Simon Magus. Charlotte is heavily inspired by the theories I have about that figure. Bezalel is going to be the 'searching' type. Not an enemy, not an ally, he'll start off uncertain of how to handle everything that's going on. Of course, he won't stand aside and let acts of terrorism by demigods slide in the mean time. His decision will have a heavy impact on the story, if we ever get that far.

I think if I had something to add about my own fan character, I would say that I created him based entirely on myself and my passion for living things- animals living today, to those that became extinct millions of years ago, and to those based on myths and legends. He was really based on myself because there have often been times were I really wished I could have his powers and abilities- to turn into any animal, creature, or beast and be able to save the world or even rescue people from harm and danger. You could say I made him to be a super hero but don't think he's based on Marvel or DC comics. He's as a matter of fact part of the Anime and Manga universe and has appeared in an awful lot of well known TV series as well as a popular icon. I'm proud of him because I made him by scratch, had to alter his powers and abilities at lease until I got them just right, and that he's a loyal character who'll do right and no wrong.

I won't go through all of the characters for each one, but I'll at least give it a start.

For the gods, all of them survived the prior war as a result of completely different tactics, and that informs their current behavior. Rafa is the last of the truly powerful gods, a character who's had the luxury to examine his own morality and has changed his perception of humans as a result. I also put him in the most vulnerable and weak state, placing on him a humility he'd never known before. His character probably had the largest shift between the war and now. Eva is a new-age god of sorts, someone who would have been considered weak at the start of the war but gradually gained power. She adapted to the world around her, and, like Rafa, sees value in humans, but only insofar as their intellects are concerned. Their adaptation was hers, after all. She doesn't see much difference between her current state and her previous one, merely continuing the same dominion she had before. Meanwhile, Katashi has never been truly powerful. He was a character who survived through betrayal and subterfuge, destroying all of his past to ensure his future. However, despite how he's been portrayed, he's not malicious. Katashi has always played the long game when it comes to schemes. He does see humanity as expendable, and is the only one of the three to absolutely hate his bound status, wanting back the power he feels he needs.

Constantine I set up as the perfect soldier, the kind who believes god and country are everything. A physical person who is often willing to do anything necessary to accomplish a given task, he's the opposite, in many ways, of Genkai, who is more thoughtful and careful with her moves. Despite her frailty, Genkai is likely the most dangerous of the Prelates, mainly because she feels open and willing to act on her own, making her more of a wild card.

Julius was fun. I wanted a character that embodied exactly what Eva was looking for in her Conduits and nothing else – brilliance, but no physical ability whatsoever. The baoding balls are actually my own design, but they embodied that same sense of mental over physical, as they are usually used to calm the mind. I thought it was a nice bit of irony that, instead of using them for calm, he used them for violence, seeking out his opponent and putting himself at great risk in the process.

Selucia was interesting, actually based on a song I rather like. I wanted the Vassals to all have very different sets of strains placed on them by holding Katashi's power, and in her case, I wanted those strains to result from the usage of her abilities. She's constantly forgetting pieces of her past, though she's not entirely sure that those pieces were good. Nonetheless, she feels like she's losing herself, and finds comfort in someone who can empathize.

For Ikizumari, Yuriko's the only character in any of these that I based off of a person in my life. She's someone who has never known true hardship in her life, and she's thrust directly into it from the outset. As a character, she has, by far, the most growing to do in this series, a character to whom loss has become the sole focus of her life. I've got a character I'll be introducing shortly who essentially faced the opposite life to hers, and that dynamic will be very interesting when they meet. Felix is very simple: he does everything in pursuit of advancing his own scientific knowledge. Any thought of other interactions of any sort just seems like nonsense to him. He's the only one of my characters that really has a god complex, but all it means to him is that he can pursue any ends he pleases without intervention. Arthur is very much his opposite – an intellectual character whose main focus is to help those around him and improve the world. He has an acute awareness of the dangers presented by his abilities, and is constantly at odds with himself.

For Kamigami, Solomon is a character of who wears many masks. This is a very deliberate action, meant to hide an emotional person beneath who, he believes, appears quite vulnerable. He prefers to function through intermediaries whenever possible because, again, he wishes always to be too distant for others to touch, and hates feeling exposed. Reine is, actually, a similar character in some regards. She's always felt that the failings in her life were because of weakness, and tries to cover for those weaknesses constantly. While she acts very plainly, she shoves down her emotions actively, actually appreciating the fact that her armaments steal away bits of personality for short periods of time. They are both characters that put up barriers and disguise themselves to various extents, though in very different ways. Nox will be similar in this regard, though taking it to an extreme in the physical sense, and diminishing it to nothing in the emotional sense.

For Age of Pirates (I'll keep this short) – Simiao and Lotus never really got developed, so I'll leave them out. Sergei is a character who has basically lost everything, and puts the weight of that loss on his own shoulders. There is anger there, but mainly depression and desperation, as he seeks any means by which to preserve what remains. Lucia is incredibly conflicted. She has a long history of being oppressed and has lived a subdued life ever since, until she killed Doflamingo. The knowledge that she held some emotion inside was news to her, and what came with it was a fear of what she had become. She is at war with herself, unsure of what she was and what she has become, and trying in some way to reconcile the two.

Wowza... that's some detail. I don't have many RPs under my belt so mine shouldn't be too long. Lemme see if I can remember where my inspirations stemmed from...

I'll start with Yumei Kakei. Urami was a simple one; everything about her is emotion-based, leaning more towards the darker ones. Veki Adomir was based around the concept of "On and Off".

In KnSK I tried to make Jake the complete opposite of her pagan god, Baron Samedi; a brash, alcohol-consuming womaniser partnering with an introverted, closet lesbian. To be honest, Yver is the result of me wanting to put supernatural powers and abilities inside the body of a complete non-athlete...

Frango in Ikizumari was inspired massively by David Haller/Legion from the Marvel Comics. Frango is my attempt at creating and portraying my own version of David Haller although unfortunately I think the only things that really differentiates Frango from David Haller is the powers they have... I like characters who interact with the 4th Wall in fiction; that's where Joseph Blogsz comes from. All other characters...

I can't really mention any characters from Resurgence since they were all created to suit my zanpakuto...

Generally speaking all my characters stem from a power/ability that I think would be good for the RP I'm in. Power first, character later.

Well typically for me at least I have a preconceived notion of what I want my character to act like, look like and fight like. The way the character turns out though depends entirely on what influences have been around me at the time.

For instance with Kyobo from Resurgence I had been listening to a lot of music making reference to the theme of a juggernaut, hence his determination and zanpakuto.

Andre Vila for Yumei came about from watching a lot of horror anime. I always thought about how powerful a nightmare was and thus his power came to being and I worked around that using some anime stereotypes.

Karlos was the product of horror and crime dramas. I wanted to have a guy who was mentally unstable enough to kill indiscriminately and who's power was something that could be used to terrify people if needs be.

Rikaro from Resurgence was based off of Swain from League of Legends both in appearance (With alterations) and personality (Very minor alterations)
