"The Diamond of the Day" Part 1

Hey there. Sixty-three down and two to go. Now who said that? Oh, yeah, it was Bradley James earlier this week I think. I’m really not sure how I’m feeling about this. I should be super sad, but for some reason I’m not. Not sure why. Speaking for myself, I think I’ve invested far too much time and emotion into this. It’s a tv show and while it’s been somewhat of a “hobby” in my case there have been times it’s been somewhat a stress on the blood pressure and I’m speaking seriously. But on the other hand, there’s my main reason for watching: Arwen. To be very honest, It’s the most that I’ve ever loved a couple on screen. Ever. And the satisfaction we’ve all had from watching their lovely chemistry has been worth it all, agreed? We have favorite scenes, favorite gifs, favorite captures on photo, and so on. We have their lovely theme music to remind us of their moments. Someone even wrote on here the other day asking about the sheet music for it because their daughter and future son-in-law wanted to use it in their wedding. That’s our Arwen. That how special they are.

One of my favorite scenes is the one from 3x02 when she came to his room at a particularly difficult time in his life. You know. The one where she was about to distract him from what his attention needed to be on and she had the wisdom to leave quickly. I remember one comment that stuck with me on the You Tube thread for the video of that scene:

“"Worry is not a wise council." I love love love this scene. It's so rare and refreshing to see this traditional kind of courtly love portrayed on modern TV, and it's amazing just how these two can make even handholding something incredibly intense. Their scenes remind me of Aragorn/Arwen in Lord of the Rings, another one of my all time favourite couples]. [tararaboomdia0101]

That’s how I feel about them. That’s why I think they have captured the hearts of so many, and maybe even why they’ve generated a level of hate. And then this comment I just discovered today at the same video (these people have expressed my heart way better than I can do myself):

“That moment when he placed his hand on hers and they were looking into each others eyes was very intense. I could almost feel the gravity pulling them together and the music was perfect.
I don't care what anyone says, I have never seen this much natural chemistry between any other TV couple. Arwen has set the bar very high. Everything about this couple is beautiful. When a couple makes me want to fall in love they are doing something right. “[1untoldlove]

What more can I say? This is Arwen. We won’t get much more new from them probably, but we have so much here on this site that we can feast on from time to time for years to come. It’s going to be over and things will slowly die down here. It’s inevitable. But I don’t think I’m the only one who after that happens, and we’ve gone on with other things, there’ll be times we’ll come back to this place to look at a certain video and what the faithful ones had to say, or look at that picture that made the place explode, or read the really funny threads that had us holding our stomachs from laughter, or some other thing to remind us of what we had here. The fanfics will stay, and hopefully more will be added, and HOPEFULLY there will be info on the two people who we love even more than Arthur and Gwen—the two delightful actors who made them real to us. So for sure THIS PLACE WILL NOT DIE.

I’m doing my little reflections here as we go into the last two episodes, but I’ll do a separate thread for episode 13; I just won’t say much on that one. I’ve enjoyed Arwen partying with you guys. I appreciate each and every one of you and how we can come here with our different perspectives, but have that common bond. How we respect each others opinions, even if they are different from ours. How we hold each other up and cheer each other on. This place has been as exceptional as our couple is! It’s been great!

Now on to episode 12... But if you have any reflections beforehand, we all sure would love to hear them. Otherwise, come here after as usual.

Nasty_Nat Amazing episode. Finally after all this wait. Can't for the finale.

Pocketgal this is a time to look back and reflect and my thought out of this episode was .... how good would an entire episode have been earlier, with Merlin without magic. Watching him defenceless watching Gwaine having to take on the bandits brilliant ..... The other thing - Gwen is the only woman in Camelot it seems apart from the cook ... every other female ends up being a spy

EPaws I wanted to share something a male friend imparted as to why he doesn't bother with the series and he finally got to see something good today. See his quote. HE NAILED IT. Yes, it was a good episode, for once! I liked Merlin like I never did before and Arthur was really great. They should have given more room to both characters earlier in the series rather than constantly sticking them together in lame slapstick. In 30mn of separation, they achieved more in terms of characters’ development than in 5 years of lame jokes, really TpTb killed their own show.

Lucerne28 A very good episode. Everything worked. Glad to see both Merlin and Arthur acting more like their legendary personas. Cute Arwen moments. Funny that Gwaine was shown shirtless on a bed with his ladylove, clearly indicating that they shared a bed that night, yet no similar scene for the married Arwen. I must say, that although I enjoyed the episode, the fear of the unknown, e.g. the series finale, tainted it a bit for me. But at the end of the day, it is only a show. Life goes on.

azwarrior THIS, THIS is what I have been waiting for! Only took us 12 episodes to get there. The stories should have been of this calibur from the very beginning of seaon 5. Then the actors may have been more inclined to sign on for a sixth season. But alas, we cannot turn back the hand of time. Stacey I agree w/your friends view....J&J indeed KILLED their own show. For the life of me, I will never understand this. Now yes possibly I am living in LALA land (lol)....but....Im going to believe that after watching the episode Arthur does not die but that it will be Morgana & Mordred who meet their fate.

leona21 As I said before I loved this episode too. I was just wondering, like some of you too, Why was Gwaine seen shirtless with this young girl on a bed but a married couple cannot even share a kiss? I really do not "get it". Has anyone got any theories??

sportyshuie Nanna ... first and foremost, this is brilliant. You have been awesome to boot and i'm honoured and priviledged to know you. My only regret, i wish i had joined earlier on. But this is my second year and i am proud to be a member of this group, no no ... wait ... what's that word again, a member of this family. Yes, i regard this as my family and i will always do. We come from all over the world with different opinions yet we are in consensus in one thing, ARWEN! We shared, respected, cried and laughed together all this while. And despite the show being over, i still hope we will remain close as we are now. Like you said, this place will never die. Let us all keep it that way. I haven't watched the episode yet but from what i gather as much here, looks like i might be wrong about the episode being a disapointment. Well, they did have 5 years to plan on this so it better not disapoint. I will watch it later and comment here so ... until then, i am going to laze around and see what is stored for my view.

lailastar Finally watched the episode and I must say I was proud of the writers for a change!!!!!!! well done. Loved the fight sequence with Arthur. Glad that Gwen was not left in Camelot alone. Even with Arthur dead, Mordred is also dead and Morgana looks more like a hag than ever, sitting on that stone throne. There is a scene in tomorrows episode she has the sword she forged for Mordred in her hands and seeks out Emrys for a final confrontation, I guess that is when she meets her doom. Saw the old version of Merlin coming, as he is known in legend, TPTB said it in the beginning , in Smallville Clarke Kent became superman and Merlin becomes the old wizard of legend the all powerful Emrys/dragoon, young Merlin is gone!!!!!. Going by Arthur's speech Albion is already formed, too bad that is all we will get on the union of Albion. I am afraid that person Sandi's preview was right, either people are dead or they are left alone in this finale.

kbrand5333 Wow. That was honestly the first episode of the season that flew by. I even abandoned the end of the Green Bay Packer game to watch this instead when I got home. Of course they were winning 41-0, so... Anyway, I was watching and was like, "Part 11 already?" (out of 14). Gwaine, Gwaine, Gwaine, what am I going to do with you, pumpkin? First we have Mordred losing all reason over one woman and now you unwittingly sell out your kingdom to another. Morgana is an idiot. Katie's acting continues awful. Arthur and Gwen are lovely as always, and I agree that Gwen probably suspects something is up with Merlin. Balinor. Balinor. LOVE him. I was over the moon when I saw they were bringing him back. And John Lynch seriously has the saddest eyes I have ever seen on a man. I just want to climb into his lap and pull his head onto my shoulder. And he's actually older than me, so I'm not a cougar for once! I hope Merlin isn't stuck in old form forever though. That just wouldn't be fair. Loved the beginning of the battle scenes, Arthur kicking serious ass. Sadly, I have a feeling that my dear sweet Percival is going to be among the body count in the end. I don't know why I have this feeling, but I do. I am SO staying up after I get home from 10 p.m. church tomorrow night to watch the finale.

faithlessducks I think it's going to be my baby's daddy! Gwaine! Gwaine running his mouth is out of chararcter especially after Morded , Kara, and Sefa! They didn't have to show it, but Arthur didn't carry Gwen to bed for a pillow fight. I can infer!

sportyshuie Watched it and .... IT WAS GOOD!!! The acting is great as always, Katie aside the rest did an excellent job here. Even the guy who had his powers stoln in the beginning of the episode was good! Holy crap, LOL!! The arthur merlin relationship in this episode is completely matured and what we expected all this while. Like Stacey said, this is what they could have shown in season 3 and used the following seasons to develop them further. Alas, we get them in season 5 and in the finale. Colin's hurt, his emotions, his acting is BRILLIANT. His moments with his father is one of the fav scenes of mine in this episode. He is MERLIN for me, by all means, No one can take that character away from him. It's his .. Bradley, well here is another man who can just act with his eyes apart from Colin and Angel. He is flawless from the word go. The hurt that shows in his eyes when Merlin refuses to go to battle with him was so telling. And then the speech at the battle, the slow mo fight scenes .. WOW! Angel was great like she always do. I just wish she finds out about Merlin soon. Gaius was good too. Now i really don't want him to die. The knights all have meatier role here, especially Gwaine. Good for them. Hope they don't end up dead. Mordred seems wasted here. That guy showed so mch potential last week but now he seems like Katie's sideshow. The acting aside, the scrip is matured and good here. No slapstick comedy, thankfully. And the fight scenes was brilliant. I just hope Merlin doesn't stay old forever. Arthur needs to see him in the real self, before he passes on. HE has to know. And that mini scene with Morgana and Merlin in the cave is another fav of mine. She can brag about being powerful and the best, but even with the powers stolen from him, she is still afraid of Merlin. Now that for me is an evidence of how powerful Merlin is! The mere mention of his name brings her to her knees and now that he is dragoon ... i can't wait to see her reaction. One thing that gave me sleepless night though ,,, why didnt Arthur called for his allies for help. Queen Annis, Mithian? They were all affected by Morgana and would have helped Arthur ... but why would he go to the battle with his small number of army when he can realy upon them? Morgana used all the help she could muster ... even going as far as stealing their powers? Just thinking why? Anyway .... i am sad. Not because Arthur might die, Gwen will be alone or Merlin might stay dragoon but because after tonight the show that we all loved will be over. But i hope we can all stay together like this for some more years to come.

sportyshuie If indeed the golden age of Camelot is now, surely Arthur would have plenty of allies around him, wouldn't he? And he can outnumber Morgana's army anytime, with or without magic.

HumbleQueen Very true, Shu. In fact, in early season what else would you think from those episodes but that he had collected allies, which would come in so handy when the final battle comes. But yes, the acting was brilliant. No slapstick. Even the gambling scene was more mature. The staredown. How many times have I seen that in scenes with the main character involved in a poker game. It's always so cool how they do that.

kbrand5333 I did love Merlin's "Yes, you found me out" line. THAT was funny. THAT was the kind of banter they should have been engaging in this whole time. None of that "horseplay" shit.

EPaws Yeah where EXACTLY where all those Allies of supposed Albion, exactly? Oh sorry plot hole. DEEP PLOT HOLE but still a great episode.

So so sorry I have not updated my "Another Ending for the Dark Tower" story. I have been very very busy with upcomming finals for my school and have not been able to write for a while.

Merlin S5 Series Finale an Utter Fail...

Merlin’s series finale went out with 7 million viewers that would mean Series 5 couldn’t hold a ratings candle to the back half of the very Gwen-centric Series 4 and that the Series 4 finale held over a million more viewers and 4x09 was the most watched episode ever. I believe 5.2-5 million was it’s average, if it broke 6 that was amazing. 7 million + were mostly for premiers and finales. 8+ for multiple episodes is what happened in Series 4.

I’m too lazy to get a source, but I do believe that 4x09 and most of the last 4 episodes of Series 4 actually had more viewers than the pilot....

My Christmas gift to you all! Hope you like it! I just want to thank all of you so much for all your kind words and encouragement about my writing. I honestly never had done any writing since school (150 years ago), and that certainly was not writing of this sort. You have all been so wonderful to me, and your praise only encourages me! Preemptive 4x11 Thoughts from Nanna (I need you)

I just felt the need to share my heart. And I didn't know where else or how to do it. We're here to have fun and boy do we. I love this place to pieces. I love all the joking around about our couple and about the actors who play them. I love all you guys. This is just a TV show and the whole deal is all make believe, but most of us do tend to recognize that and try to keep our emotions over something that's not real in check.

But I have a heavy heart right now, because I am a bit invested in this couple. I hope I'm wrong about what I'm feeling. You don't know how much I'm hoping I am wrong....
