EPaws A Smidge of Trivia For Those Who Care *smile*: The sword in the stone is NOT Excalibur. In all of the stories of King Arthur dating from the middle ages, they are two completely different swords. In the later stories, the sword Arthur pulls from the stone breaks in battle, and he later receives Excalibur from the Lady in the Lake. Earlier versions of the story (Geoffrey of Monmouth, Wace's Roman de Brut) mention Arthur's sword Caliburn (a corruption of the Welsh Caledfwlch, which in turn is turned into Excalibur in French), but don't say anything about it except that it was "forged on the isle of Avalon."
