Basically. People ship Dawn and Ash because:
1. They high-five a lot
2. They are supposedly best friends.
3. Couldn't really care less about this sh*t and about Dawn so I didn't think this through.

But, thats just the beginning of getting it wrong. Really wrong. More wrong than, say. that lame sum in Math which doesn't really have an answer.
