Sorry it took me A LONG TIME too write this down.
Butterflies danced in the pit of my stomach as I sat on the brown leather couch in the hospital waiting room. Out of all the people in the room, and I knew this for a fact, I was the most nervous and excited for Katara. Her, Zuko, and my mom were in the labor room down the big doors we couldn't go in until the baby was born. Kayla and Kyra each sat on the other couch across from me. They were silent, not a single word left their lips in the past 2 hours.
Kayla, Kyra, Sam, my dad, my mom and me all came to the hospital. My mom was in the room with Katara helping and Kayla, Kyra, my dad and i sat in the waiting room. My Dad snored under a blue blanket on the other couch.
Still, as I sat there, at 2:31 a.m. in penguin pajamas and bunny slippers, something knack at the edge of my mind. Every single time I felt Katara's belly, or every single time katara was In the room, I could sense the baby. I felt every movement it made without even feeling her belly.I felt like the child was more than a being about to be born. It was a new thing all together. I even knew something they didn't, and that's what scared me the most. I sensed a bender and a non-bender in Katara's stomach.
After about 25 minutes a docter in a white coat and a blue hair net walked into the room.
"You can come see the baby now." Said the doctor.
We all jumped up and ran past the doors. Katara's room was close by and I heard a small cry coming from the door. We ran inside to find Zuko's arm around a tired Katara in a hospital gown. On her chest was a small child wrapped in a blue blanket. My mother sat in a chair behind them looking satisfied.
"This is Dishi. Katara said. "He's a boy." Zuko looked at her.
"Now that everyone's in here why don't we give him the test?" Katara nodded. The doctor with us stayed. "Oh don't worry Katara. Doctor Jones is a water bender."
I looked at the doctor behind me that was washing some utensils. "What's the test?" I asked confused.
"Its the test you do on a newborn child to test if its a bender and if so what type of bender he is. A person as a newborn can use their powers without even knowing. They might even bend more depending on their mood." Zuko said.
My mom laughed," I remember when you were screaming for milk Sydney, you set the bacon I was frying to a huge fire. The house almost burned down!"
"I did!?"
"Yes, but the house was fine. Sam put out the fire with the water from the bathroom. She was screaming too."
Sam and I each laughed and waited for Zuko to speak again.
"Sydney, I want you, Kayla, Kyra, and Sam to do the test for Dishi." Zuko said. "All you do is put the element in front of him. He'll show if the element is his or not." I almost screamed and looked into Dishi's eyes. They were a dark brown, like Zuko's eyes, mine, my father's, and Micheal's mother's eyes.
We all jumped with joy and went outside to find the items. We grabbed a cup of water, a candle, and a rock. Back inside the room we placed the items on the tray on the bed. Katara turned Dishi around so he could face the items. Zuko then tapped on the center of Dishi's head 4 times. It was to activate his bending for the first time.
First,we opened the window all the way. It wasn't windy outside. This would test if his element was air. For minutes nothing happened. Zuko shook his head and we closed the window. No air bender. Then we placed the rock to the center of the table. We waited and nothing happened. No earth bender.
Then I went and grabbed the candle I placed it on the tray I snapped my fingers and a small flame appeared on the candle then I stepped back.
We waited. Then suddenly Dishi began to cry and the fire grew it was growing like oil was poured on it. Soon bright flames were dancing around the table. He was a fire bender! Kyra reached out for the water to bend it on the flames but somthing stopped her. Dishi stopped crying and his brown eyes started to brighten. They turned a deep shade of blue, ocean blue. Suddenly a wave of water jumped from the cup and put out the flames. We looked around the room. Katara, kyra, and Sam each shook their heads. They hadn't bended the water and I hadn't learned the art of water bending yet. So who bended it?
I turned my head to Dishi. A small chubby hand was raised in the air of the exact form of a water bender.
Thats what I sensed every time I felt Katara's tummy. I sensed a multi bender.
Dishi, son of Katara and Zuko was a water fire bender.......complete opposite elements.
