I think it's adding to the story that you don't get to know his name during the movie since it would make him more human to Belle, not that it's anything wrong with that, but I just think it's better that they don't do that. If this makes any sense...

I always thought of him as "The Beast"; I thought he was cuter than he was as a prince.

Is this disney encyclopedia on the web or an actual book? If it is the one online, it cannot be used as evidence, since there is a disclaimer at the bottom stating that it is not affiliated with Disney in any way. Besides, Adam does not really fit him for some reason. When I was little (1994-95 ish) I was convinced his name should be David, since I was told by my cousin who actually knew what she was talking about that the animator of the Beast used the David statue by Michelangelo as a model. So I thought it fit, and think the name is more appropriate; he looks more like a David than an Adam, don't you think? Sorry to be so long-winded :)

yup it's adam it's quite obivious everybody knows but it's sorta weird cause in the movies he's often called master not by his real name
