Berserk was furious. Her face was red and her eyes were wild. Her ribbons blazed around her like a fire and Brick was sure he could see smoke blazing out of her ears. She struck at him with a clenched fist and he easily dodged it, retaliating with a punch of his own. His fist connected with her jaw and her head snapped back. A scary growl escaped her lips and she charged at him with a strength he's never seen.
In a split second, he's on his back and Berserk is on top of him, throwing punch after punch to his face. Blood pours out from a cut on his lip and he struggles underneath her, trying to push her off. She doesn't let up, no, she's too angry. She hears his nose crack and he cries out.
"Berserk! Stop!"
But her mind is elsewhere as she forms an energy ball and pushes it right into his chest. The sky lights up a pinkish red and everything stands still. Berserk feels all her strength being forced into that energy ball, and once it connects with Brick's chest, she goes flying backwards. The smell of smoke and burned flesh raises in the air, clogging her nostrils and making her eyes sting. She slowly sits up and looks over at the motionless form, her eyebrows raised. She stands up, a bit wobbly on her feet from all the energy she lost, but she stalks her way over and kneels down on the ground next to him.
"Brick?" She says, staring down at his closed eyes. She places a hand on his neck and feels for a pulse, but she is met with nothing. Her other hand brushes past his nose but no air hits it. Both lands lay on his chest but there is no beating vibration against her hand. "Are you dead?"
She continues to stare at his lifeless form, confusion etched on her face. How is it possible that he's dead? Is he even allowed to die?
"Did I kill you?" She asks, touching his cheeks. They are cold and clammy, nothing like their usual warm and softness. She brings a hand back and lams it forcefully on the flesh, but there is no reaction. "Did I kill you?" She repeats, a childlike tone taking over her voice.
"I killed him."
Saying it feels foreign on her tongue, but a good type of foreign. It feels like it belongs there, like she's been waiting to say it for a long time.
"I killed him."
She repeats it, smiling a bit. She looks down at him, the smile never leaving her face. A hand reaches down and brushes an orange lock out of his face. She leans down with her lips close to his cold ear.
"I killed you."
She whispers it, as if it's some secret that must be kept between the two. It's a secret, she laughs, that she'll never be able to tell. She shakes her head, giggling loudly. What a way to keep a secret safe, she thinks, just kill whoever you tell.
"He's dead."
She says it out loud this time and immediately clamps a hand over her mouth, eyes moving to Brick. She gives him an apologetic frown and shrugs. "Sorry. I shouldn't have said it out loud." She laughs again and leans over him, studying his face. He looks peaceful, she decides. I did something good, she thinks, pleased at his expression. He doesn't have the same uptight scowl like usual. He actually looks hot, she nods.
Her face is close to his, their noses touching. Goosebumps form on her arms as she leans over him, her warm skin mingling with his cold. She stares at his eyelids, swearing she saw them bounce a little just a second ago. They jump again and slowly slide open, the sharp red surprising her. She jumps back and her mouth drops. The body groans and sits up slowly.
"What happened?"
Berserk blinks a few times, thinking she's gone crazy. When she opens her cherry red eyes and those brilliant red ones are still staring at her, she frowns.
"Aren't you supposed to be dead?"
Brick smirks a little, giving Berserk a look like she was a curious five year old. "You really thought I was dead? You're silly."
She blinks again and shakes her head. "I felt your pulse. You weren't breathing. I killed you." He smirks again, his eyes glinting. He gets on his knees and crawls over to her, placing a hand on her forehead. She shivers a little, his skin freezing against hers. She shakes her head again. "See? You're cold."
He shakes his head and brings his hand down to cup her chin. "You may have killed me," he says, stroking her cheek with his cold thumb. "But I'm not dead."
Berserk pouts and moves her head out of his grasp. "This is really weird." She gets up, rubbing her head. "I'm going home. Maybe I need a nap. I'll tell Brat to make me one of her deserts." Brick pouts and stands up as well, grabbing her hand. She shivers at his cold touch, the chill going right down her back.
"Going so soon?" He asks, looking up at her with sad eyes. Berserk nods slowly and moves her hand out of his grasp. His pout deepens but he does nothing when she flies away.
Berserk slammed the door to her room, throwing herself on the bed. What is wrong with me? She thinks, smashing her face in a pillow. I killed him, he's dead, it's all in my imagination. She continues to think about his dead body, the cold skin that made her shiver. Was he really still alive? Or was she going crazy?
"Just gonna ignore me, huh?"
The voice startles her out of her thoughts and she sits up quickly, ready to fight. She scans the room and her eyes nearly bulge out of her head when Brick is sitting at her desk. His chin is sitting lazily on his hand, those bright red eyes of his staring at her. He sighs and gets up, sitting on the edge of her bed.
"How did you get in here?" She asks, her own eyes meeting his. He frowns and moves closer to her, and puts one hand around her.
"You'll never get rid of me," He says simply. "I'm here forever."
"But... why?" Berserk moves out of the way, making his head plop against the bed. Brick frowns and stretches out on the bed, yawning.
"Don't ask questions, Berserk."
She sighs and looks down at him, scowling. "I hate you, Brick. I wish Oppressor Plutonium would hurry up with the portal creation so I can get back to Viletown. "
"Good. I'll follow you there"
-a few months later-
Berserk smiles and holds the boy close to her. She gives him a soft peck on the cheek, smiling. She then leans down and rests her head next to his, finally over the freezing temperature of his skin. Cold fingers reach over, caressing her cheek and pushing orange locks behind her ear. The pair smile at each other.
"How was your day?" The boy asks, snuggling against her warm body.
"It was nice." She says,"I couldn't wait to come home to see you." The boy smirks, those brilliant red eyes of his lighting up. "I'm so glad you're here with me, Brick."
Brick pokes her. "You weren't saying that five months ago," he teases. "Funny how we're in love now, huh?"
Berserk leans close to his ear, smiling. "I killed you." He slaps her arm and chuckles, pushing her away.
"Stop!" He cries out, laughing. "Nobody is supposed to know that!" She laughs along with him and he sits up, letting her head fall into his lap. His fingers tangle in her hair and she smiles, content.
The door of his room slams open, startling the couple. Brick jolts quickly and moves away, sitting at the desk. Berserk frowns at the disturbance and crosses her arms over her chest.
"What do you want, Brute?"
The green eyed girl looks around, glaring. She settles on her sister and scowls. Green and red collide, but the red wins eventually, like fire burning grass. Brute looks away and frowns, crossing her arms over her chest.
"Who were you talking to?" Brute inquires, raising an eyebrow at her sister. Berserk looks at Brick with a sweet smile and he smiles a small, secret smile back sweetly, nodding his head.
"No one." She says.
