On the Indochine's latest opus, Alice et June, you sign a song "Pink Water"…

Brian : I am an Indochine's fan since I'm 9 years old. In France, they are still very popular even with the years they don't age (laughs). I concocted this song in the bathroom of a palace in Bangkok. One evening I held a retreat in the toilet, I shouldn't smoke in the room because my girlfriend was expecting our child. After a few cigarettes, I found inspiration (laughs). So, now, as Chris Martin, I know the joys of fatherhood (laughs).

PM : You have been criticized for having take part in Indochine's latest album.

BM : I know, but it's completely stupid. Nicola Sirkis is a friend! Everybody around us, was pressing us to work together, but we always refused. And then the opportunity turned up, and we both wanted to do it. Cynics might say: "It's marketing", too bad for them… It is anything but that.

"In fact, I had starting working on a text in French but on an English gibberish. I asked him to help me with that, because I wanted an English version of this song, but consequently he made me a full text and even added voice melodies. It took him 48 h. He was in Bangkok at that time, so we did it by UPS, we sent him the CD in Bangkok, it come back... . We should meet when I would record it so that he can help me with the phonetics. Several times the meeting was postponed because he was not free with his band, we weren't yet in voice session. Finally, we decided to meet a July 31st in London so that he can help me just for the voice and a few days before he called me, telling me 'You know, I would like to sing it with you! ". What everybody hoped and what I hoped but without me asking, he offered to do so himself. We did the recording a Sunday in a studio near his home, he came with a bottle of Chablis and we spent the afternoon together. "

RockMag : Brian made you listen to some stuff from his solo album?

Nicolas Sirkis : No, he just asked me permission to see if he could take Pink Water. It's quite interesting because his own record company refused to let us release it with him (it's the version with Nicola alone that was released as a single of Alice & June). I told him: "Look, you have written the lyrics, you could do what you want". Anyway, it proves that he likes the song and that, once again, his own record compagny is a big shit (laughs)! And nevermind, it doesn't matter, it's the business. What is important is that the song exists, it is historic, and it comes in different versions ...
I have seen him, he was in Paris in February, and the video was played, and he was disgusted that it was this version wich was released. On the other hand, I think that if he had really wanted to, he could have stressed and made his own record compagny give in. It is a bit strange, what happened with this song. I find it great, he found it great, we did it together, and so, the story ends there ...
