Dr. Strangelove is a comedy film that's very popular. It was directed by Stanley Kubrick and stars Peter Sellers. This review is about wether this classic black and white film has aged good enough to watch now.
The Plot:
The film takes place during the 1960s' where the war is going out of control. Merkin Muffley, the president, tries to find a way to bring peace and end the dangerous madness. Sadly for him his scientist, Dr. Starngelove, is more eccentric than helpful. Lionel Mandrake tries to do what he can to help, but that turns out to not be helpful.
Dr. Strangelove or How I Learned to Make the Longest Film Title Ever has a enjoyably goofy plot. Despite being considered to be a dark comedy the film is not depressing. In fact it manages to be quite fun. The film is so well written that even though it's in black and white and was made decades ago it's aged good. The jokes in the film are more than funny. They're clever. This is 1 of the best written comedy films ever.
The Cast:
Peter Sellers did a great job at playing 3 characters: the President, Lionel, and of course Dr. Strangelove. Nearly all of the characters in the film are entertaining. However the title character is the my favorite character by far. Dr. Strangelove is a enjoyably weird character that he made the film more fun than it already was. My only real complaint is that Dr. Strangelove should of had more screen time. Another standout character is Major Kong who has a crazy finale involving a missile.
The Visuals:
Well the film's in black and white so it's not that colorful. However the film is so clever and entertaining that the visuals don't hurt the film that much.
Overall:
Dr. Strangelove or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb is 1 of the best comedy films ever. It has Peter Seller's best performance and his best character. The film is worth checking out.
