Cinders From the Peninsula Clarion, after this letter was published: "Weeks later we received the following letter from Ms. Shannon: 'While I've been thoroughly entertained by the overwhelming number of passionate responses to my January 29th letter, it should probably be noted that, as at least one writer speculated, it was a complete joke. I think it has run its course and at this time space in the Letters to the Editor section should be reserved for more important issues.' Now we were angry. Numerous attempts to contact Ms. Shannon proved the letter was a hoax, and we stopped printing any letters referring to hers. Shortly afterward, we received a letter from a person telling us the same letter was found in a blog from a woman from South Carolina, and he sent us the Web address. We wanted our readers to know the story behind the letter." Snopes.Com said: "Given the plenitude of e-mails we've received over the years expressing the very same sentiments as this letter, it (regardless of the intentions of its creator and/or sender) apparently does reflect the genuine opinions of a not insubstantial readership base."

SG1-090 People agree with this letter? *sighs* People are idiots. I won't even bother to say why - i think it's pretty evident!

samuraibond005 its to my understanding that freedom of religion means that we can practice any religion we want, from secularism to foot washer Baptists, i personally am multireligious so i practice more than one religion, Christianity is one of them, the center of my religion in fact. i think that the only reason bad things happen is because of people's lack of morals rather then their lack of christian beliefs. and about prayers in school, school is a place to learn not to warship, if you choose to warship god in a school that is fine but its not until we choose to get rid of prayers in churches that we have a problem.

southern-belle Freedom of religion means believing want you want, be it multiple gods or no god. This letter isnt right and stuff like this is exactly why i left christianity(among other things)

jennabug121 America is just soooo devided these days! It makes me sick! In our constitution it says that everyone has a right to their own beliefs and will not be persecuted for it! Isn't that why we came to America in the first place! And I know that alot of other countries are on fanpop and i think that more people should come to this sight because we are all supportive of eachother :)
