It's a little late, but I wanted to have my say. :) I was watching Corpse Bride yesterday, and was thinking about how when I was a kid I always wanted Victor and Emily to end up together. Yeah, Victor and Victoria were in love, no one can deny that. But there's many different kinds of love. And I really think Victor was falling in love with Emily.
I think Victor falling in love with Emily made more sense to me. It was happening more slowly, so slowly a lot of people missed it. But it was there. And I think they'd balance each other out. Victor being the more soft spoken of the two, and Emily being the more out-going. And lots of people loved Emily too. She was smart, sweet and funny.
Victoria and Victor make sense too, but what would they have to talk about? Victoria was so sheltered, I don't think her parents let her have any actual hobbies. If she did, we didn't get to see to many. They're both to quiet. What are they going to do? Sit there and look at each other for 50 years?
Maybe Victoria would've fallen in love with someone else, had she had the chance to meet anyone. Maybe Victor would've fallen in love with someone else, had he met anyone. Judging by the story, and some quotes they both didn't know very many people of the opposite sex. And they were "betrothed", so maybe their love was about trying to please their parents and make the best out of a tough situation. Maybe Victor would've fallen in love with Emily, had they had the time.
But what I'm really getting at with this, is there's many different ways to love someone. The way Victoria loved Victor, she went against her parents and rebelled. The way Emily loved Victor was different, she let him go, which I kind of doubt Victoria would've done. That old saying has some value; If you love something, set it free.
Victoria and Victor seemed like young love, the kind teenagers have. The way Emily loved him seemed timeless, at least to me and people I've asked.
But, sadly, I can't change the movie. So Victoria and Victor got to be together. :( I don't know whether to be sad or happy.
So if you actually read this, sorry about my really jumpy argument. I had to get it out. :)
