Matt Murdock has always been a character that was inundated with grief, hardship, and violence. These are of course the pillars Frank Miller built Daredevil upon when he took over the reigns on the book back in the 1980s, which led to a level of maturity not often reached by a number of Marvel titles as of then.
Heavily inspired by Miller’s (and Bendis’) run on ol’ hornhead, the Netflix series managed to accomplish a flawless page to screen transition for Hell’s Kitchen’s most famous vigilante – surpassing many fan’s expectations in the process. Non of the maturity and violence that had come to define Daredevil as a comics legend had been lost in his TV début, and that meant that some very shocking moments made it onto the show – much to the adulation of Daredevil fans everywhere.
The 13 episode series managed to capture the drama, rawness, and flare that the character has always been known for, and gave viewers some of the most amazingly choreographed fight-scenes in the process. The tone couldn’t be more different from the rest of the MCU, and that is definitely a good thing considering just how isolated Hell’s Kitchen is when compared with the rest of the Marvel Universe.
Well acted, brilliantly written and flawlessly executed – here are the moments that managed to shock in ways the Marvel Cinematic Universe simply couldn’t.
