Death Note Question

So it's time to debate, Yagami Light. What do you think of him? Do you think he is evil or good? Do you like him or hate him?

To be honest, I can't say that I've always hated him. In fact, I think there was all a point in time where we liked him. Not to say that I hate him now, but I don't like him. I started to "not like" him, when he started killing innocent people to protect his name. His whole plan to make a perfect world was brilliant and if I had some sort of power like that, I would probably try the same thing. Lots of people hate him because "he killed L." But is that really the case? Could it just be something in the back of your mind telling you that you can't like his character, because he is evil. But then, he has good intentions, so now you don't know what to think of him. I think of him like this, In a sense, yes he is evil, but, in the same way, he is good. Like I said, he has good intentions. Unfortunately, he let Death Note and praise, and the fact that he was so close to his goal all go to his head. Have you noticed that Mello's, Near's, Kira's, and L's themes are all similar? (See Video) That's because in a way, they are all the same. In fact Mello and Near have the same theme as L but each with a slight twist. The point of this is, that the message Tsugumi Obha (Author of DN) was trying to get across is that there is no such thing as a perfect world. In that sense, Light's character had to be this way. Bottom line, Light is neither good or evil, and in my opinion- and I don't care how much hate I get for this, a corrupted L with a Death Note.

I thinks at first he is kind of neutral at first but after his confrotation with L he began to slip into evil i think his method are too extreme but he can also be justified and noble because evil people in the world is nearly impossible to change and redemmed without disclipne and fear.In overall i do like him he need to kill L and his followers because they attempt to stop his revolution and i like him because he is an extremeist which most i like and unbroken resolve.Though he lost his mind and got corrupted by power in season two.

An interesting question. I kind of like your opinion on it, really - it's a long explanation, but I think it is a good one and it obviously truly reflects your opinion.

So, I like Light and still do... I don't really care about the innocent 'killings' - I think, by that point, throughout your charade that it would be a little late to stop there. Why not just continue? You're pretty much already screwed anyway.

I think his original was awesome - prisoners, to this day, still remain a massive drain on society, costing billions to taxpayers all around the world. As far as I'm concerned, it would be easier and less costly to just give them the death penalty, at least, if they've raped, or murdered people... obviously there should be a line to be drawn, I mean, it would be a bit harsh to give someone the death penalty for smoking weed, or for fraud. But, of course, that doesn't actually help us much. So, yeah, Light's idea was a pretty good one and he did pretty well, for the most part. He was just really unlucky that he had L after him, because that really screwed him over and then the addition of Near and Mello.

I liked him, til he began to manipulate Kiyomi. I then thought. Wasn't he the one who said, he wouldn't use anyone in that manner? He became a real ass after that.

Honestly, I don't think I ever disliked Light. He begins off as someone with a hope to change the world for the better, an idea that would probably have the support of just about everyone. The method to go about achieving it though (killing criminals) is rather questionable in the eyes of many. Regardless, I supported Light's idea even though the method isn't humane. There is no perfect world, and there is no perfect human. While Light was very smart and thought of a few brilliant plans, he let the idea of creating the perfect world as well as his opposition get to his head. It clouded his judgment and caused him to become cold. He began to kill anyone and everyone that opposed him instead of just criminals. However, I'm drawn to characters with dark pasts or dark paths, so I never really disliked Light, even while knowing what he did was wrong. I guess I'm just another Kira fan, but I hope a little bit of what I said made sense.

I hate him, I agreed with his motives at first but then he started taking it too far, even a couple of episodes in he was willing to, oh I don't know, burn the entire house down! He was also willing to kill innocent and good people for what he believed was "Justice." Does that sound like justice to you? And he didn't even consider false evictions, unfair trials, and things like that. Again, he wants to do good things, but the way he does them is inhumane.
