In honor of the beautiful Princess of the Month, Ariel, I decided to write this article and decide what the most popular/favorite song is. Here we go...

"Fathoms Below"
"Fathoms Below"

"I'll tell you a tale of the bottomless blue
And it's hey to the starboard, heave-ho
Look out lad a mermaid be waiting for you
In mysterious fathoms below
Fathoms below, below
From whence wayward westerlies blow
Where Triton is king and his merpeople sing
In mysterious fathoms below
Below, below
Mysterious fathoms below"

This is the opening song from The Little Mermaid. This is where we first meet Prince Eric, and most of us girls fall in love with him. You really can't blame Ariel for falling in love at the sight of him. That's like the pot calling the kettle black. Most everyone likes this song, they just like the other songs a little more.

"I just like the others more." -tiffany88

"Aww Fathoms Below, I love that song." -disneyfan500

"I don't even remember this song xD" -callejahLUVSed

"Les Poissons"
"Les Poissons"

"Les poissons, les poissons
How I love les poissons
Love to chop and to serve little fish
First I cut off their heads
Then I pull out their bones
Ah mes oui, savez toujours delice
Les poissons, les poissons
Hee hee hee, haw haw haw
With a cleaver I hack them in two
I pull out what's inside
And I serve it up fried
God, I love little fishes, don't you?
Here's something for tempting the palette
Prepared in the classic technique
First you pound the fish flat with a malette
Then you slash off their skin
Give their belly a slice
Then you rub some salt in
'Cause it makes it taste nice
Zoot alors, I have missed one!
Sacre bleu, what is this?
How on earth could I miss
Such a sweet little succulent crab
Quel Domage, what a loss
Here we go, in the sauce
Now some flour I think just a dab
Now I stuff you with bread
Don't worry, 'cause you're dead!
And you're certainly lucky you are
'Cause it's gonna be hot in my big silver pot!
Tout-aloo mon poisson
Au revoir"

This song has always annoyed the CRAP out of me. It gets stuck in my head, and takes forever to leave! The only good thing about the song, is when Chef Louis and Sebastian battle it out. It adds comdey relief to a silly song.

"I hate this song." -CodyVenusTrent

"I'm sorry but I just think that a chef singing about cooking fish; and making it seem like it is the best thing in the world is pretty wierd!" -courtney_22494

"And I find Les Poissons hilarious! D: Am I the only one who likes it?!" -ppgbelle4 <-Apparently, yes. You were the ONLY person to say something positive about it, lol :)

"Daughters of Triton"
"Daughters of Triton"

"
Ah, we are the daughters of Triton
Great father who loves us and named us well
Aquata, Andrina, Arista, Atina, Adella, Allana
And then there is the youngest in her musical debut
Our seventh little sister, we're presenting her to you
To sing a song Sebastian wrote, her voice is like a bell
She's our sister, Ariel"

This song is short and sweet, introducing all of King Triton's daughters; well, almost all of them! It would have lasted longer if Ariel hadn't been off exploring, but then she wouldn't be the Mermaid that we all know and love.

"Annoying! Annoying! Annoying!" -SarahCorine

"It's very short and not very memorable." -ppgbelle4

"It's okay.. I don't have much of an opinion on it." -Mongoose09

"Poor Unfortunate Souls"
"Poor Unfortunate Souls"

"I admit that in the past I've been a nasty
They weren't kidding when they called me, well, a witch
But you'll find that nowadays
I've mended all my ways
Repented, seen the light, and made a switch
To this
And I fortunately know a little magic
It's a talent that I always have possessed
And dear lady, please don't laugh
I use it on behalf
Of the miserable, the lonely, and depressed (pathetic)
Poor unfortunate souls
In pain, in need
This one longing to be thinner
That one wants to get the girl
And do I help them?
Yes, indeed
Those poor unfortunate souls
So sad, so true
They come flocking to my cauldron
Crying, "Spells, Ursula, please!"
And I help them!
Yes I do
Now it's happened once or twice
Someone couldn't pay the price
And I'm afraid I had to rake 'em 'cross the coals
Yes I've had the odd complaint
But on the whole I've been a saint
To those poor unfortunate souls

You'll have your looks, your pretty face.
And don't underestimate the importance of body language, ha!

The men up there don't like a lot of blabber
They think a girl who gossips is a bore!
Yet on land it's much prefered for ladies not to say a word
And after all dear, what is idle babble for?
Come on, they're not all that impressed with conversation
True gentlemen avoid it when they can
But they dote and swoon and fawn
On a lady who's withdrawn
It's she who holds her tongue who get's a man
Come on you poor unfortunate soul
Go ahead!
Make your choice!
I'm a very busy woman and I haven't got all day
It won't cost much
Just your voice!
You poor unfortunate soul
It's sad but true
If you want to cross the bridge, my sweet
You've got the pay the toll
Take a gulp and take a breath
And go ahead and sign the scroll
Flotsam, Jetsam, now I've got her, boys
The boss is on a roll
This poor unfortunate soul
Beluga sevruga
Come winds of the Caspian Sea
Larengix glaucitis
Et max laryngitis
La voce to me
Now, sing!"

This is by far my favorite Villain song. It's catchy, and it displays how Ursula is trying to get inside Ariel's head and trick her into making a deal with her. She tries to come across as a friend wanting to help her, when in fact she is just a tool in her plan to destroy King Triton and become ruler of the sea.

"it's so cool and Epic" -CuteDiana

"I never liked this song so much." -Darkshine

"Ho-Hum!" -Tigressfan10689

"Kiss the Girl"
"Kiss the Girl"

"Percussion
Strings
Winds
Words

There you see her
Sitting there across the way
She don’t got a lot to say
But there’s something about her
And you don’t know why
But you’re dying to try
You wanna kiss the girl

Yes, you want her
Look at her, you know you do
It’s possible she wants you, too
There is one way to ask her
It don’t take a word
Not a single word
Go on and kiss the girl

Sing with me now
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
My, oh, my
Look at the boy too shy
He ain’t gonna kiss the girl
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
Ain’t that sad
Ain’t it shame, too bad
You gonna miss the girl

Now’s your moment
Floating in a blue lagoon
Boy, you better do it soon
No time will be better
She don’t say a word
And she won’t say a word
Until you kiss the girl

Sha-la-la-la-la-la
Don’t be scared
You got the mood prepared
Go on and kiss the girl
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
Don’t stop now
Don’t try to hide it how
You wanna kiss the girl
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
Float along
Listen to the song
The song say kiss the girl
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
Music play
Do what the music say
You wanna kiss the girl

You’ve got to kiss the girl
Why don’t you kiss the girl
You gotta kiss the girl
Go on and kiss the girl"

In this song, Ariel's friends gather around and try to create a romantic environment for Ariel and Eric, to make him want to kiss her. I love the scene, but the song has always annoyed me a little bit. There's too much pressure, and it kinda ruins the romance for me.

"I also prefer Ashley Tisdale's version of "Kiss the Girl" to the original but I still like the original :)" - SailorM91

"Close second being Under the Sea. Why? Because it's a Brainwashing Song!!! XO
lol, just kidding." -GypsyMarionette

"Part of Your World (Reprise)"
"Part of Your World (Reprise)"

"What would I give
To live where you are?
What would I pay
To stay here beside you?
What would I do to see you
Smiling at me?

Where would we walk?
Where would we run?
If we could stay all day in the sun?
Just you and me
And I could be
Part of your world

I don't know when
I don't know how
But I know something's starting right now
Watch and you'll see
Some day I'll be
Part of your world"

There are lovers of this song, and haters. Some find it romantic and sweet, and others find it lustful and creepy. I happen to like it. It's the perfect moment; the two of them lying on the beach, Ariel running her fingers through Eric's hair, singing to him as the sun shines down on them...it gives me chills!

"I hope this one leaves already. The song is not as energetic as UTS and KTG. Also POYW shows her vague understanding of the world above her, and it makes the song much more dreamy. POYWR is out of pure lust." -BelleAnastasia

"Part of Your World (Reprise) is one of my absolute favorite disney songs! it's so beautiful and powerful!" -Gleek4ever

"Under the Sea"
"Under the Sea"

"The seaweed is always greener
In somebody else's lake
You dream about going up there
But that is a big mistake
Just look at the world around you
Right here on the ocean floor
Such wonderful things surround you
What more is you lookin' for?

Under the sea
Under the sea
Darling it's better
Down where it's wetter
Take it from me
Up on the shore they work all day
Out in the sun they slave away
While we devotin'
Full time to floatin'
Under the sea

Down here all the fish is happy
As off through the waves they roll
The fish on the land ain't happy
They sad 'cause they in their bowl
But fish in the bowl is lucky
They in for a worser fate
One day when the boss get hungry
Guess who's gon' be on the plate

Under the sea
Under the sea
Nobody beat us
Fry us and eat us
In fricassee
We what the land folks loves to cook
Under the sea we off the hook
We got no troubles
Life is the bubbles
Under the sea
Under the sea
Since life is sweet here
We got the beat here
Naturally
Even the sturgeon an' the ray
They get the urge 'n' start to play
We got the spirit
You got to hear it
Under the sea

The newt play the flute
The carp play the harp
The plaice play the bass
And they soundin' sharp
The bass play the brass
The chub play the tub
The fluke is the duke of soul
(Yeah)
The ray he can play
The lings on the strings
The trout rockin' out
The blackfish she sings
The smelt and the sprat
They know where it's at
An' oh that blowfish blow

Under the sea
Under the sea
When the sardine
Begin the beguine
It's music to me
What do they got? A lot of sand
We got a hot crustacean band
Each little clam here
know how to jam here
Under the sea
Each little slug here
Cuttin' a rug here
Under the sea
Each little snail here
Know how to wail here
That's why it's hotter
Under the water
Ya we in luck here
Down in the muck here
Under the sea"

Ariel has her mind made up that she wants to meet Prince Eric, so Sebastian tries to convince her otherwise. He sings to her about how life under the sea is way better than living on land. It's a catchy song, but has no effect on Ariel! She still wants to be human.

"Under the Sea is epic!" -BelleAnastasia

"It's annoying compared to the others. "UNDAH DAH SEA! UNDAH DAH SEEEA!!!" Imagine having that stuck in your head since you were little. T__T" -ClassicTV

"UTS for engaging the audience in a fun and endearing manner." -Straggy

"Part of Your World"
"Part of Your World"

"Look at this stuff
Isn't it neat?
Wouldn't you think my collection's complete?
Wouldn't you think I'm the girl
The girl who has everything?
Look at this trove
Treasures untold
How many wonders can one cavern hold?
Looking around here you think
Sure, she's got everything
I've got gadgets and gizmos a-plenty
I've got whozits and whatzits galore
You want thingamabobs?
I've got twenty!
But who cares?
No big deal
I want more

I wanna be where the people are
I wanna see, wanna see them dancin'
Walking around on those - what do you call 'em?
Oh - feet!

Flippin' your fins, you don't get too far
Legs are required for jumping, dancing
Strolling along down a - what's that word again?
Street

Up where they walk, up where they run
Up where they stay all day in the sun
Wanderin' free - wish I could be
Part of that world

What would I give if I could live out of these waters?
What would I pay to spend a day warm on the sand?
Bet'cha on land they understand
That they don't reprimand their daughters
Proper women sick of swimmin'
Ready to stand

And ready to know what the people know
Ask 'em my questions and get some answers
What's a fire and why does it - what's the word?
Burn?

When's it my turn?
Wouldn't I love, love to explore that world up above?
Out of the sea
Wish I could be
Part of that world"

This is one of my all-time favorite Princess songs. It shows how much Ariel desires to be part of the human world. She's so curious and willing to learn, and it shows in this song. It's the perfect Princess song.

"I like the way it gives an insight into Ariel's desires and determination - they're two of her best qualities in my opinion and one of the reasons I love her." -Straggy

"Under the Sea will never come close to the epicness of Part of Your World and Ariel's singing." -KataraLover
