Although it is quite true that Maleficent is indeed the Big Bad of Sleeping Beauty, there are hints that another antagonist, not evil villain, people might overlook. His name is King Stefan. Princess Aurora's father who rules France.
He is Responsible for Maleficent's Curse on Aurora:
King Stefan invited all the Ladies, Lords, King Hubert, Prince Phillip and the Three Good Fairies to Aurora's christening, except for Maleficent without Stefan himself confessing his reason why he didn't invite her. After Maleficent curses Aurora, he shows no remorse for his mistake.
He Poorly Handled the Situation regarding Lack of Invitation:
As stated above, he didn't confess his lack of invitation to Maleficent. Instead, he let one of the Fairies and his wife Queen Leah to insult Maleficent. Consequently, Maleficent tricked Stefan and Leah into letting her bestow the so-called gift on Aurora. Therefore, Stefan wasn't aware that his lack of invitation would cause Maleficent to get revenge on the kingdom.

He Bankrupted the Environment:
Even though this was done for precaution, Stefan went as far to bankrupt the environment by wasting all spinning wheels. Consequently, we don't know how many in the French countryside would sew clothes and fashion as a result of this controversial decision made by Stefan.

He is a Hypocrite:
Even though Stefan did support the original idea of wanting his daughter to marry Prince Phillip with unity of their kingdoms while it does have merits as he wanted to see his daugter and take their time until their children would get better accquainted, he initially objected the idea by proclaiming this plan as a shock for their children, which ignited an argument and led to a pointless brawl. He also went as far in calling King Hubert an old windbag and threaten a war with him which contradicted the original plan.

Did I miss something which makes Stefan an overrated character? Do you agree or disagree? Do you think Stefan is a good character despite his occassional shortcomings?
