First off, I would like to say that I understand if you think Astrid’s a filthy traitor and liar, but please, hear me out.
Astrid is a strong character in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. She’s a bit creepy and mysterious, but I think she’s honestly more of a victim than anything.
Astrid tells you in the game that she killed her uncle, and liked it. She is bloodthirsty, but I think there’s more to this than what meets the eye.
She was probably abused and hurt by her uncle, and was terrified of him. When she finally got up the courage, she managed to get hold of a weapon and kill him, run away from her home, and find the Dark Brotherhood, where she slowly became a well-known assassin to fear.
I honestly think she deserves more love—not because of her looks (Yes, there are some people who like her because she’s ‘sexy’), but because of her personality. She deserves more empathy and sympathy, and I will be the one to give it to her.
Whenever I watch her death scene—either in the game or on YouTube—I cry. She seems so depressed, so willing to die—I just can’t call her a traitor. She was loyal to the Dark Brotherhood, and gave her life away for their safety.
Naturally, I can understand why some people get upset that she betrayed them, but think! Firstly, she’s an assassin, not a big, kind lady. Secondly, she was willing to give up the life of one person to save her whole organization, which may seem unfair to the player, but she cared about the whole group—not just one person.
Sure, she was a bit dumb to give Commander Maro (Curse his name!) her trust, but I still adore her. She was loyal to her lifestyle until the end, and I wish she didn’t have to die.
I fulfilled her last wish only because it was hers, and she was in great pain—both emotionally and physically.
Her last words: “Thank you…” Absolutely broke my heart. She was happy to die, but happy to kill, as well.
Rest in peace, Astrid.
