Promising Korean boy group EXO’s first studio album has recorded a whopping million-seller.
The record named “XOXO (Kiss&Hug)” became a golden disc, the honorable title given to records sold over one million copies, after recording accumulated 1,007,577 copies of sales on Friday, according to the group’s agency SM Entertainment the same day.
Combined 471,570 copies of its standard version with 536,007 copies of the repackaged version, EXO’s first full effort made the achievement for the first time in 12 years.
Last K-pop albums which recorded as golden discs are veteran vocalist Kim Gun-mo’s seventh album “Another Days” and JYP Entertainment’s first and very successful idol band god’s fourth full effort “Chapter 4,” both released in 2001.
In September, EXO was already recorded for selling the most number of albums in 12 years with the same record, whose sales record was over 737,000 copies.
Along with the sales record of the 12-member group’s latest record “Miracles in December,” EXO’s overall album sales for this year reached 1.44 million copies, SM explained.
The group will wrap up their overwhelming year with heating up major channel’s year-end music shows, from KBS’s Friday night to SBS’s on Sunday and MBC’s Tuesday night.
