Study on : The Maxson Family

Introduction:

Recently I’ve created a character only so that I could explore the Wasteland and discover everything there is to discover about it. I entered the Citadel, went to the Archives room and activated a terminal containing valuable information regarding the Maxson Family. On the following topics I’ll post everything I discovered about it, along with small comments of mine. The information in this article contained may or may not be the same as in the Vault Wikipedia, although I don’t really care (and want to learn by myself about Fallout’s history). Note that the information in this article contained may relate to Fallout New Vegas’ history as well. Enjoy exploring the Fallout 3 world…

Roger Maxson:

DoB – NA
DoD – 2135

Roger Maxson was second in command of the security team stationed at the West Tek research facility, and was later relocated to the Mariposa Military Base.
He assumed command after the leader of the security team, Colonel Robert Spindel, had a nervous breakdown. He [Roger Maxson] executed scientists after learning of their research into the Forced Evolutionary Virus, or FEV.
He was deserted from military just before the war. He ordered the families of all base personnel brought inside the researching facility, saving their lives.
Maxson’s wife was killed during the Exodus of the survivors – led by Roger himself – to the Lost Hills bunker.
At Lost Hills, Roger formed the famous BROTHERHOOD OF STEEL, and being the first High Elder, he formed the Orders of Paladins, Knights and Scribes.

Comments:

This Maxson guy is clearly very important. Roger Maxson.
West Tek was one of the largest defense contractors in the employ of the US.
The Mariposa Military Base was a top-secret U.S military facility built to guard the FEV (Forced Evolutionary Virus) research, previously conducted at the West Tek. That is what I read. The Great War started on October 23, 2077, when all nations – in the Fallout world – that possessed nuclear weapons launched their nuclear weapons at each other. The main nuclear-capable nations were: USSR, China and USA.

Maxson II

DoB – NA (teenager of unspecified age in 2077)
DoD – 2155

Roger Maxson, founder of the Brotherhood of Steel, died, in 2135, which lead to the taking over of the command by his son, Maxson II. Roger died of cancer.
In 2155, Marxson II was hunting down a group of Raiders known as the Vipers, and was perforated by a poisoned arrow. The Viper poison killed him within hours.

Comments:

Roger Maxson – creator of the Brotherhood of Steel. His son was Maxson II, who assumed command when he died of cancer in 2135. Cool. The Brotherhood of Steel found throughout the Capital Wasteland is just a small fragment of the whole body. They are stationed in the Citadel, built on top of the Pentagon, because the Pentagon contained advanced technology, and that is why they are in the Capital Wasteland: looking for advanced technology (maybe that’s why you have to find out about the G.E.C.K during the main quest) and helping against the Super Mutants.

John Maxson

DoB – 2097
DoD – NA

He is son of Marxson II and grandson of John Marxson – the one who started it all (the Brotherhood). At the age of 38, due to being a gifted soldier, John Maxson was promoted to Paladin, in 2135 (when his grandfather died of cancer and his father assumed command of High Elder). Soon after, he was promoted to Head Paladin.
Due to his father’s death during a battle against the Vipers, John Maxson took over the position of High Elder, in 2155.
At the age of 65, in 2162, records indicate that he, John Maxson, had some dealings with a mysteriours person named “Vault Dweller”.

Comments:

Interesting. I’ve heard of this “Vault Dweller” before, in the game. Maybe if I see his name, I will stop and look for information if there is any!

Scribe Arthur Maxson

DoB – 2267
DoD – NA

He is the only son of John and Jessica. It is important to highlight the fact that he was the last of the Maxson bloodline.
As a child, he was sent to the Citadel, in the Capital Wasteland, to be fostered by the Elder of the place, Elder Owyn Lyons. There were two reasons for this:

1.) The Western Brotherhood of Steel suffered an internal conflict, and therefore Arthur was located at an unsafe environment. Despite being located at a hostile territory, in the presence of Super Mutants and the danger that the Capital Wasteland guards, the Citadel was the best place for him to survive.

2.) Elder Owyn Lyons, at that time, was in high favor with the Elders from the West, and could provide care and training to the Squire.

Apparently, events led to a problem in communication with the Westen Elders. This meant that Squire Arthur Maxson would remain in the Citadel during an undefined period of time.

Comments:

Never seen this Arthur. Should check out the Citadel. Must be a scribe, and working in one of the Rings…who knows?

State of Maxson

It is located in the New California Republic, built close to the Lost Hills bunker, where Maxson escorted the survivors to. It was protected by the Brotherhood of Steel.

Comments:

Need to find out about this bunker. I have read Maxson’s diaries and read all about the Exodus to the bunker, but should know more about it. Does Fallout New Vegas have this Lost Hills bunker?
