Ok, now I know that there are other articles out there about keeping Fanpop clean in terms of language and being appropriate but it is obviously not enough seeing as people continue to ignore it.
I am not by any means trying to be rude or bossy. I am not your mother. My goal in writing this is hopefully a common one among Fanpop users, to make Fanpop a joyful place for all users.
Topic 1: Language
I myself am very guilty of inappropriate language on Fanpop. I have said some things where if I think twice was not a good idea. I understand that some people say things out of habit and can do it without giving a second thought as to how appropriate it was. Again, I have done it myself. There are just some users whose language is SO bad that I want to wash their mouth out with soap...jk. But what I am trying to say is PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE try to keep it clean. This is not the first time you have heard it and it probably will not be the last. If your feelings are that strong, use a alternative word like "dang", or "fudge", or "gee wilickers!"...in short try not to say anything Flanders from The Simpsons wouldn't say.
Topic 2: Images/Picks
I am shocked by some of the images on Fanpop! I have seen images of nearly nude people. I have also seen images on picks with barely dressed people and things such as the no-no finger. I have also seen many inappropriate picks on topics such as sex. What is worst of all is that these things are not in say the Playboy Spot but rather spots like the Picks Spot!! Some of the images I have seen on fanpop make me double check that I'm not in some type of strip club!! Please people, lets think about what we're posting!
Topic 3: REMINDER: There Are Young Children On Fanpop!!
Ok, so imagine you're a parent of a young child. You see your child type "www.fanpop.com" in the browser and up comes this homepage with almost nude pictures, and questions about sex, and the F-word here, and H-E-double hockey sticks there. Are you going to be concerned about what kinds of websites your child is going on!?!? OF COURSE!!!! I myself did not learn the S-H word until I was 9. Given I was a sheltered child but that's not the point. What I'm trying to say is we do not want Fanpop teaching kids what certain things are or words mean! We don't want Fanpop teaching kids that it's ok to be a potty-mouth!
Again, I don't like to nag but please, lets try to keep Fanpop an enjoyable place for everyone. Respect others, respect their beliefs and their rights. Everyone deserves to have the joyful experience of Fanpop so don't ruin it for others.
Thanks for reading!! :)
