Prologue-Introductions
My name is Isabella (aka Bella) I’m 17 and I lived in Phoenix Arizona. I`m pretty plain except for one thing but I’ll get to that in a minute. I have brown hair and beautiful topaz eyes, well most of the time. Sometimes there black. I’m 5 foot 4 and very skinny. I love music, mostly classic like Debussy`s Clair De Lune. Like I said I’m pretty plain except one thing. I’m not human.
I was human 2 months ago until my mom, Renée, told me she was getting remarried. A week later I was standing at her side while they said their vows. Phil (my mom’s husband) took her for a week long honeymoon. I was left home alone. I told my mom not to call because I may go to a friends and if I had to I would call her. I was walking to the store to get something for dinner when I was stopped by some random guy on the street.”Hello. My names James. And you are perfect.”That was all he said then he grabbed my arm and pulled me into an ally and put his lip to my neck and traced his noses up the main jugular “What the hell are you doing?”Was all I got out before he bite me.
I went through 3 days of a burning pain all over my body. At first I tried to fight it and wake up and put the fire out but I couldn’t move I could only scream and open my eyes ever few minutes. On the third day the pain was mostly in my chest, like someone was placing hot coals on my heart.
The pain slowly dulled until I couldn`t feel it any more. I opened my eyes and saw someone I thought I saw before but I couldn`t give that much thought cause I could feel the fiery pain was now in the back of my throat.” Are you thirsty do you need to hunt?” I nodded my head but I realized I wasn’t sure what he was talking about. “What do you mean ‘hunt’?” He chuckled and grabbed my chin “Why you’re a vampire like me. You must be thirsty you’re a newborn you need to drink.” My head started to spin and I pushed him off of me. I was shocked to see how strong I was. I only pushed him light enough to move him but he went flying across the room. “You stronger then I thought you would be. Why don’t you calm down and come out side and hunt. You need blood.” I cringed at the word, I couldn`t even be in the same room as someone who had a nose bleed without passing out or getting sick. Sometimes both. “I hate the smell of blood I always have.” He laughed at me when I said this. “Well now trust me you’re going to want to drink it after you smell it now. You have forever so you better get used to it.”
I finally gave in and went outside. “In hale deeply and let your instincts take over.” I did what he said only when I inhaled I smelt the worst smell ever. It was more intense the any other time I smelt blood. I could smell rusty salty smell that only comes from blood. “Oh my god.” He looked at me shocked” What is it love?” I stopped breathing.” I still can’t stand the smell it`s making me feel sick I need to sit.” I looked up at his face and tried to remember who he was “What’s you name anyway?” He look shocked now even more then I was at my strength.” You don’t remember? I told you before I changed you that my name is James. What about you I changed you so fast that I didn’t catch your name.” I looked at him.”My name is Bella. I need to get home my mom and her husband will be back in like 2 days. Move out of my way NOW!” James as I now know him was standing in front of me.”I said MOVE NOW!”Why the hell won’t he move? Oh well I did it once I can do it again. I put my hands out in front of my and even before I touched him he went flying down the street. I started to run hoping that he wouldn`t catch me or that I wouldn’t fall that when I noticed something. I hadn’t fallen yet, normally I was so clumsy that I was a hazard to anyone in 10 feet of me. Then I realized that I was running faster then I had ever seen someone run. I got home in 5 minute.
My throat was burning even more now. Then I smelt it, the steak in the fridge for some reason I could smell the blood in it and my instances take over and I drained the steak of all the blood. Hmmm if the blood from the steak can stop my thrust even just for a minute I wonder what the blood from a whole animal would do.I put on my coat and run out the door to the woods on the outskirts of the city. Immediately I could smell a deer ahead so I ran and found it. I jumped on it and sunk my teeth into its neck. The blood filled my mouth and slid down my throat. When I stood up I was covered in blood and if any human saw me they would call the cops. I took the back road and took a shower as soon as I got home.
The two days pasted by fast. I found I could hear everyone heart beat and every one had a different smell. I also found I could run faster they humans and all my senses and reflexes were as well much faster and stronger. I couldn`t sleep no matter how hard I tried. When my mom got home she was surprised by my new beauty and how I wasn’t tripping over my own feet.”Wow honey you look so different....in a good way though. And you’re not tripping as much. What happened when I left?” I laughed like she would ever believe me. “Nothing mom I`m just growing up. I don’t think it`s anything to worry about.” She laughed but then her face went hard and serious. It only went this way when she talked about my father. “What is it mom?” She put her head in her hand” Your father wants you to go down for the rest of the summer. You have the choice to go or stay but when you get back if you go where leaving for Jacksonville.” I stared at her not breathing for a good 2 minutes before I spoke.”Wait, were moving? I don’t get a say in that? I`ll be on the other side of the country. I can’t be that far from dad. Can I stay with him?” This took her by shocked her. “If that what you want you can stay with him but you’re not coming home until your finished at least one year of school there you’re not just coming home after a few weeks.”
That`s how I got there on a plane to Forks Washington. I lived there when I was little then mom moved with me. I stopped visiting him when I was 14.Now I’m going to spend a whole year with him. The plane started to land. He was waiting for me to get off the plane.”Dad I ran to him at hugged him lightly because with my new found strength I could easily crush him. “Izzy you look so grown up. It`s so nice to see you.” I smiled I haven’t been called that since I was like 10. I looked around and I realized it was sunny. It had been the worst summer on record for Phoenix. No sun so I wasn`t sure what happened if I went out in it. “Where is your car parked? “He looked at me for a minute before answering “We`re over there in the under part of the parking lot.” I let out a sigh of relief.
The ride home was long and boring. “Bells you know how you always wanted a truck to be you first car right?” He looked at me.”Yeah I still want a truck if been saving up for one. I hate moms’ car.”He looked at me again instead of the road.”Well I bought you one. It`s a welcome home gift.” I was shocked.”Wow I don’t know what to say. Thank you. I can`t wait to see it!”That when I saw him. I remembered him vaguely, Jacob Black. An old friend we used to play as kids. But that’s all I could remember. I in haled deeply and looked at him again. He wasn`t completely human, his scent was that of both human and.........wolf. He looked at me and grinded his teeth together. “Can I talk to you?” I nodded and we walked into the house.
“What do you want?” I tried to act sweet but he wasn’t buying it. “When did you change Bella? Who changed you?” I looked at him shocked how did he know? I had questions of my own but I wanted to know what he ment by changed? “Wait what do you mean ‘changed’?” He stared at me like I was retarded “You`re a leech, a blood-sucker ...a vampire. Who changed you and when?”I looked down how did he know I was a vampire? “A month and a half, some guy I think his name was James he grabbed me and pulled me into an ally he told me I was perfect and then he bite me.” If I could cry, which by time my mom was came home I found I couldn`t, I would have been.”And what are you?” Now he was shocked.”What do you mean?” I laughed at him.”You don`t smell like most people I know you have wolf in you I can smell it. That sounds so much better in my head but it`s true. Where are you going to be going to school?” Wow a werewolf well that explains it. “Forks high, down the road. Why?” He laughed for a good five minutes before he answered.”No reason, well there is one but I won`t ruin the shock, you just have to wait and see. Call me after your first day tell me if you figured it out.” Then he got up and left.
In the two weeks before school I found I was going to have to drive myself to and from. I would get home and ‘have dinner’ alone (I didn’t really eat I hunted) .I knew my schedule and memorized the map of the school. I kissed my dad good bye and left for my first day of school in Forks.
