((In preparation for the July release of my newest fanfic, "In The Background," I present to you a short excerpt. The story strongly follows Ms. Rowling's original plot, but with a few changes of my own. As you can see by the title here, this will most likely be the largest fanfic you've ever seen.
I have seen a lot of stories here centered around the Trio's fifth year. This is one of the few (if any) stories that follows all seven books.
Most of the chapters in the story are loosely based off the original. However, this chapter is one of three I wholly invented.))

Hailey Potter strode down the street of the village, alone. She hadn't been here since the night her parents died. It was strange, coming back. She could almost hear the high, cold laugh, see the flash of green light. Wherever Harry was, Hailey was sure he'd be fighting as hard as he could.
She pulled her cloak closer around her. It was cold and a bit snowy, perhaps early December. She scanned both sides of the street. It would be here somewhere…
There! Behind those bushes! She could tell it was the right place just by looking at it. One corner of the house was entirely blown away. That must have happened when the curse backfired.

With a nervous gulp, Hailey strode up to the gate. As soon as she touched it, a sign sprang up. She smiled slightly as she read the messages. Harry would be sure to come here, back to where it all began. Godric's Hollow might not hold anything to aid his quest, but it would surely strengthen his resolve to keep fighting.
Smiling to herself, Hailey pulled a quill and a bottle of ink from her bag. Carefully, she wrote a message to Harry on the wooden sign.

"Harry," she wrote. "It's all up to you. I know you can do it. We're all right by your side." She signed her name, put away quill and ink, and walked away, her head bowed against the biting December wind.

At my uni we've been studying the way gender and sexism shapes the education curriculum.

This was an article we were actually given to read and debate about in a seminar:

"Harry Potter's girl trouble
The world of everyone's favorite kid wizard is a place where boys come first.

Four factors made me go out and buy the Harry Potter books: Their impressive lead on the bestseller lists, parents' raves about Harry Potter's magical ability to turn kids into passionate readers, my daughters' clamoring and the mile-long waiting lists at the public library. Once I opened "The Sorcerer's...

*The Great Hall was built for Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in 2000 and was used as a key set for six more films. (The Great Hall does not appear in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1).

*The House Points Counter was rarely seen on screen, but it is rumoured that when it was first built it caused a national shortage of Indian glass beads.

*The spectacular Great Hall includes the costumes of students from each Hogwarts house plus two large tables which are set for dinner; at the top of the room is the teachers' table where the Hogwarts Professors sat. Iconic scenes such as the Yule Ball and the Battle of Hogwarts were filmed here.
