He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is a 2002 reboot of the 1983 series of the same name. A lot of reboots have infamous reputations for lacking the appeal of the originals. However, this He-Man reboot managed to be a hit with the fans due to it respecting the original series while also having a lot of different elements that helped it stand out.

In the show, Cam Clarke voiced He-Man. He is best known for voicing Leonardo in the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon series.

Unlike in the original series, Battle Cat didn't speak.

Kathleen Barr voiced Evil-Lyn. She later went on to voice other iconic villains, including Trixie and Queen Chrysalis, in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

This series gave Skeletor an origin story. He used to be Keldor, an ambitious and greedy man that wanted to take the kingdom of Eternia away from King Randor. During a fight with Randor, Keldor got acid in his face. In an attempt to save his life, Keldor went to Hordak for help. Hordak gave Skeletor the skeleton face.

As to be expected, Skeletor started off as the main villain of the series. However, King Hiss and his army of snake men eventually gave Skeletor and his henchmen some serious competition.

In the original series, Prince Adam and his alter-ego, He-Man, had identical looking physiques. In the 2002 series, Adam was given a much scrawnier physique. This helped make him and his muscular alter-ego look different from one another.

The 2002 series could be considered more serious than the original series. However, the series managed to avoid becoming a dreary, bleak show by having a lot of the colorful charm and humor of the original series. The villains were generally more menacing than they had previously been, but Skeletor still had a wicked sense of humor.

The original series usually revolved around singular stories. However, the 2002 series had stories that spanned across multiple episodes. The show started with a 3-part story that showed Prince Adam becoming He-Man for the first time. It also showed his first fight with Skeletor.

The storyline in the first season revolved around Skeletor's various attempts to take over Eternia. Keldor's transformation into Skeletor was Skeletor and Hordak's fault, but Skeletor seemed to blame King Randor for what happened.

In the series, Skeletor was shown to be quite harsh to his sidekicks. Most of them were too afraid to double cross him, but some of them made brief attempts to betray their leader. Evil-Lyn got the closest to being successful.

The storyline in the second season largely revolved around King Hiss and his army of snakes giving He-Man and the heroes a bigger challenge than anything that they had ever previously faced. The second also teased the arrival of Hordak. This series implied that Hordak was the most dangerous villain in the universe. That honor usually belongs to Horde Prime, but Horde Prime was never shown in this series.

The series was very popular with fans, but it only lasted for 39 episodes. This was blamed on the line of toys not selling as well as they should have. The show only had 2 seasons, but there were plans for a 3rd season. The 3rd season was going to have Hordak become the main antagonist. It was also going to introduce She-Ra into the series.
